PM: Wat Dhammakaya to remain restricted zone until Dhammachayo was arrested

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha reiterated on Tuesday that he would not lift the order issued by virtue of Section 44 of the interim constitution to declare Wat Dhammakaya a restricted zone until Phra Dhammachayo was arrested or turned himself in to the authorities.

The prime minister also raised the question about monks wearing face masks during their confrontation with the officials when he found a reporter wearing a face mask during a press conference at the Government House today.

“What’s wrong with you? You come from Wat Dhammakaya?,” he asked reporters and quickly added: “It is understandable, if you have cold, you can wear a mask. But if you don’t, why should you wear mask to conceal your face and you are monks too. Is is appropriate or not, I don’t know.”

Meanwhile, Pol Gen Chakthip Chaichinda, the national police chief, said officials wanted to search Zone A and B again, but they were not allowed to get into the temple by the temple.

Had the temple been cooperative and had not resisted the officials’ attempt, he said that the search would have been completed in three days.

Prayut promises temple raid will continue until Dhammachayo surrenders
By THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- THE JUNTA order regarding Dhammakaya Temple in Pathum Thani will remain in effect until fugitive monk Phra Dhammachayo surrenders, authorities said yesterday.

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday said he would not cancel the order issued last week under the interim charter’s all-powerful Article 44 to declare the temple as an “area under control” until the former abbot gives himself up. “I confirm that I won’t cancel the order because this case is not yet at an end and the alleged wrongdoer hasn’t yet been brought to face prosecution. This place will be a controlled area until Phra Dhammachayo surrenders to enable his prosecution,” he said.

“Do not say I will seize gold statues, because we don’t know where things are and whether there are gold statues as claimed. How is it possible to make real gold statues when the Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative (KCUC) was broke? Think, you will know the answer to that,” he added, apparently referring to the temple’s alleged links to corruption.

Lawyers call for revocation of Article 44 order at temple
By THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- THE THAI Lawyers for Human Rights Centre (TLHRC) has called on the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) to revoke the Article 44 order against the Pathum Thani-based Dhammakaya Temple and to use normal judicial procedures instead.

The TLHRC said in a statement that the use of the Article 44 order might lead to human rights violations.

The order authorises officers to take actions beyond their usual duties in line with normal judicial procedures, such as seizing an area, controlling infrastructure, searching premises, vehicles and persons as well as dismantling structures or barriers.

These actions could affect the rights and liberty of at least 6,000 people within the compound, many of whom have not been accused of any wrongdoing nor are the subjects of arrest warrants.

At last, a PM who's not so politically correct and not afraid to waive the big stick

when needed, I like the cut of his jib...

and those lawyers asking to remove the S44, well, I would have a lot more respect

for them hadn't, sadly, I knew some of them only to well, and not in a positive way....

"How is it possible to make real gold statues when the Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative (KCUC) was broke?"

Stop asking rhetorical questions and start  articulating. Many of the rogue monk's followers think he's divine, so it might be an idea to explain this all.

You can't dumb the populace down to a point where they can understand stuff that makes 'your' life easier. This is the problem with religion. You can benefit by brainwashing, but someone else can also come along and do the same.

".....why should you wear mask to conceal your face"?

The RTP wear face masks to preserve their identity when shaking down motorists and others. So why not reporters and monks?

Why do policemen wear facemasks and sunglasses while working at checkpoints?? I do nothing wrong and don't wish to speak to (lookalike)-criminals who hide their names and faces and can't speak english.

I thought 'normal judicial procedure' had failed!

Hey ezzra I have dealt with a lot of lawyers in my lifetime. If you find one you/we can trust steer him my way.
