child's non-o dependent visa renewal questions

Featured Replies

Hi there. Looking for some advice about my son's visa renewal - he's 18 months old.

He was born in Thailand but is not Thai (both parents farang). last year I got a UK passport for him and a 1 year multiple entry non-o dependent visa which was tied to my own non-b. Both my non-b and his non-o are due for renewal - my company will pay for mine, however they wanted 12,000 baht to renew my son's for another year which is a little steep. I understand that I can simply not renew his visa in which case there will be no fine but probably some grief at immigration upon departure. Alternatively I can try and renew his visa myself at the local (jomtien) office. Could anyone advise on this? i.e.

- what level of grief could I expect on departure if I let his visa lapse?

- will this place any restrictions on where we can exit?

- if I instead extend / renew at jomtien what docs will I need and what will be the cost?

Many thanks for any advice

I suspect he has an extension of stay as your dependent with a multiple re-entry permit. If he had a multiple entry non-o visa he would have to leave the country every 90 days.

Once you have your new extension you could apply for his without a big problem. You would need his birth certificate and some documents from your employer to prove you are still working. The fee for an extension is 1900 baht. A single re-entry permit is 1000 baht and a multiple 3800 baht.

hi ubonjoe thanks for the info. you are correct, he currently has a mutliple re-entry permit but it is unlikely he will need this next time. If I just renew the visa for now can I apply for single re-entry permits later as needed?

My employer will only pay for my annual extension, not my 2 year old son's or my Lao wife's, which I pay for. But the annual fee is only 1,900 plus the re-entry permits, so 12,000 is way too much!

You can get the re-entry permit later. You can get one at either airport in Bangkok on departure from the country.
