Government says tour boat operators’ call to be discussed by its advisory committee Monday

BANGKOK: -- The government's national park advisory board will meet Monday to debate call by tour boat operators in Krabi to decrease the present entry fee to Nopparat Thara-Phi Phi Islands national park government spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said today.

He said that the committee will conclude what it discusses and agrees and will  propose to the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation for further consideration for 20 days.

On the initial stage, he said the government would like the apartment to understand the call of your boat operators nut at the same time would also like the tour boat operators to be open-minded and to understand that why the entry fee was imposed at these rates.

He said that the current rates, 400 baht for foreign adult and 200 baht for child, have been used for the past 10 years, and was not just recently increased.

He also said that the reason for decline in tourist numbers might come from the fact more tour boats were registered.

I think he's onto something here...tourists would much prefer unregistered, leaky boats!

The cat is out of the bag as far as tourism is concerned in a number of ways, not least as far as "double pricing " is concerned.

In fact they seem to have spent the last couple of years poking the bag with a variety of sticks to really wind up the cat, before undoing the drawstring and releasing said infuriated feline...[emoji4]

Still, they can always rely on international investment to help diversify.

What's this? Tourism numbers declining?

Has anyone told TAT about this? Last thing they reported was that numbers would be 30% up.

But those are probably just cheap Charlies coming here to do some knock off brand shopping, and more likely to be interested in prostitutes than nature.

There was a time not too long ago when showing a 5 year driving licence would enable a farang to pay the thai rate, but they soon stopped that.................what is needed is for all foreign media to clearly state the double standards being operated here.maybe, just maybe, someone in authority here will take note and actually do something about it............but I won,t be holding my breath

Declining tourist because less boats...  Guess what does not mean numbers are down.. just numbers per boat.

Apparently we don't object to being ripped off !!

Lt Gen Kaewkamnerd said "  He insisted that foreign tourists have no worry about the current entry fees. "

I suggest he take a vote on that from expats and frequent visitors as to whether we are happy with the double pricing system ?

When I was there a few years ago the charge was 100 for a ride to Railay on a long tail boat. Is this guy saying the price has been 400 baht for 10 years. I certainly will not be paying 400 baht. In the past I have refused to pay extortionate rip-off charges in many places.

Just let the Thais go in and I wait outside and have a coffee.

Tourists are a fickle bunch - case in point is the Costa Brava and Costa del Sol which were overdeveloped and became a rip off with tourists treated with contempt.  They kept building hotels but quite suddenly the tourists got fed up with the rip offs and vast numbers swapped Spain for Turkey.  The tourist industry in the two Costas has never recovered 40 years on and most of the hotels are vacant condos - or were a few years back.  The point is you can rip people off, treat them with contempt and 'this is our country and you are just a farang with no rights - just have to pay pay pay' but eventually and suddenly people just stop and go elsewhere.  While the Thais revel in their superior attitude arising form ignorance and stupidity and fail to act the clock is ticking and they will realise that their attitude has to change - but that time it will be too late and people will be going to Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Laos and later maybe Burma for an 'Eastern Adventure'.  Thailand is beautiful not because of the Thais but rather in spite of it - particularly as the sense of social responsibility for their own country is dismal going by the rubbish and stench everywhere - and they should remember that they have a fantastic destination by the grace of God and respect it a little more by their deeds.

No, it is the National park entry fee, not the boat man's fee for a trip to Railay..read the very first sentence : debate call by tour boat operators in Krabi to decrease the present entry fee to Nopparat Thara-Phi Phi Islands national park

Written in English so easy to understand if its your native language

Try this

There are more boats registered so capacity to transport is up!  Yet fewer tourists arrive

if you can add 1+1 your know the answer if not carry on thinking the way you are as its the problem here.

Yup and also let tourists know they have to pay 220 baht for getting 10.000 baht out of the atm....which is max.
