Hi all,

I'm considering going to see bridge over the rive kwai and have a look at the war museums and memorials in Kanchanaburi, is it worth it? is there much else to do there?

Hi,

I was there earlier this year whilst staying in Bangkok. Well worth a day trip which usually includes a ride on the Death Railway. Nothing much else to do there. Hope the pics on the previous post help to whet your appetite.

Thanks a lot for that! Think I will go, probably be in summer '07.

Thanks again!

The Kanchanaburi Guide

There's also a new FREE tourist book that's just been published. Done by a few friends of mine and you can get one anywhere in town. Some good info in it and it's renewed every 3 months.

I would read a book about the history of the place first, I read one after I had visited and now find I have to go back with my new found appreciation.

Good luck, make sure you visit hellfire pass...

Wat Pa Luangta Bua Yannasampanno is a little bit out of town but well worth a visit. This is the place that raises tigers (also other animals but the tigers are the main attraction). You can get your picture taken sitting with the tigers which is quite a unique experience.

They're all over town. Bars, guesthouses, travel shops etc. If you PM me your address I'll send you one.

Sounds great and after reading through the guide that Backpack linked I really want to go. Primarily its for the war museums and memorials but the tiger temple looks good, one thing though, are the tigers well looked after? Not doped or anything?

Do you recomend one in particular?

The tigers appeared to be well taken care of to me. The more agressive ones weren't let out to interact with the visitors.

I understand that there was a story about this place on the Discovery Channel or similar TV program a few months ago.

Ah thats good then, I'll have to definately go there too.

Lake Sri Nakarin...100km north - very beautiful!

Sri Nakarin Dam is a great place to visit too. You can do rafting there or visit the Erawan waterfall.

I went there in May last year and during this new year break. It was nice and cool. You will see different colors of the forest. :o
