NAKHON RATCHASIMA: -- A WILDLIFE activist strongly criticised Khao Yai National Park officials yesterday for allowing a rescued Asian black bear to fall to its death from a helicopter during an operation to return it to nature.

 

Thongchai Saengprathum, secretary of the Khao Yai Foundation, said the |officials concerned should face legal action for |negligence during the February 11 incident.

 

The bear woke up aboard the helicopter while it was being flown into the national park in Prachin Buri. It had not been put inside a cage but was instead covered by a net and put on board. As the helicopter flew over forest land, the animal panicked and fell to its death.

I would say more like " the bear woke up and the persons on board shit themselves and pushed the poor bear out of the chopper " well they did say they were dropping it off to return it to nature

Shame RIP Mr Bear.  What they doing just throwing a net over it?  Should of been secured in a cage

This would be the helicopter equivalent to propping your 3-year-old child in front of you on the family Honda Wave.

 

Safeguards are routinely ignored in Thailand, often with very serious consequences.

Maybe this is a training run for the PM's purge on government corruption. The Duterte way!

This could have been worse: bear falls on school kills children, bear attacks pilot, copter crashes.

 

I guess using a pick-up truck was out of the question?

Nothing is conclusive until we hear the testimony of the bear.  Hmmm, please bear with me but this is too ridiculous so early in the day...

It's far easier to obtain a degree than common sense.  Lots of people with degrees, yet they lack the ability for problem solving. They only know how to follow instructions, and depend on the person giving instructions to know what he's doing.

Let's hope the Thai police don't get involved or they'll have it that the bear committed suicide.

 I guess it did commit suicide... sorta...

Almost unbelievable.

 

Bad 1 - flying the bear should not have been considered if overland was available.

 

Bad 2 - Bear should have been crated.

 

Bad 3 - Appropriate sedatives and someone able to administer them should have been flying as an attendant to the bear.

 

I'd imagine that those involved in the 'Flying Circus' feel pretty bad. They should feel very bad. This incident was almost completely avoidable.

 

Shameful.

When Bear woke up in the helicopter he discovered he had not been properly secured for the ride.

 

 Helicopter, Thai ingenuity, Bear dangling in cage....can only have

one outcome......

And the cage dropped from seriously high altitude, and over a dam or reservoir...

It had to take a group of retards to make all the wrong decisions that were mentioned, which led to this total screw up. Hope they noted the drop zone on gps so they can go in and recover the bear and have a good feed  (bbq) and be sure and save the bile, might get a few baht .;

 

Reminded me of the story about promotion of tame farm raised turkeys and they were put in helicopter, taken up several hundred meters and kicked out as free to whoever caught one. The promotors of this brain fart did not know the creatures were not capable of flight.

Why was it not underslung & will the vet and pilot be 'tapping the boards'?
