Let Patong party all night, say Phuket pollsters

The Phuket News

PHUKET:-- More than 75% of respondents to an online poll have called for late trading for bars and nightclubs along Bangla Rd in Patong and more than half of the respondents overall called for late-trading entertainment zones in other areas of Phuket.

The overwhelming call from the public to allow nightlife late trading follows a crackdown earlier this month that saw scores of revellers in Phuket’s party town kicked out onto the tourist-flooded streets one night (see story here), and then bars and nightclubs deserted the next.

The raids enforced the current law that bars must close at midnight and nightclubs must close at 1am. These closing times are for venues inside Patong’s “entertainment zone”, which comprises Bangla Rd and extends 50 metres on either side thereof – venues elsewhere, depending on their entertainment license, are supposed to close earlier.

However, just two days later, more than 20 Patong nightlife venue operators filed a petition addressed to Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha to extend the closing times for bars and clubs in Patong (see story here), and Phuket Governor Chockchai Dejamornthan made that request official with the support from the Phuket Provincial Office.

Gov Chockchai confirmed last week that he has also asked for permission to allow 4am closing on Taina Rd in Karon, home to the only other official “entertainment zone” on the island.

75% of what proportion of people and are they expats or visitors? There are lies, damn lies and statistics.

2 o'clock is good enough in other places throughout the country why should Patong be a special case other than the two main thugs in town back it? All it means is that people will go out even later.

I saw the other day that Taina Road is being considered. Perhaps someone involved has business interests there as Taina Road has been dead for the past five years, the only busy business being Doctor Chusak (though Kwong's still does "OKAY").

Perhaps they mean the nearby beer bar area.

I think Thaina Road is still officially an entertainment zone. It could get a bit better there again when the new Lucky opens.

It also creates situations like the one where the Englishman ended up dead. How much is to much??

Can you please explain the connection?

Andrew Apperley, 38, was on holiday when he vanished after telling his family he was attending a Full-Moon Party on the island of Ko Phangan

My post was conveying the idea that partying can be bad for your health. Glad to answer any and all questions you have.
