The most pathetic thing here..even worse than the teachers actions is the fact that this incident will be totally ignored with nothing done...A complete reflection of the idiocy of the entire system....If this were my kid..these teachers..all of them would be paying dearly

I can almost cry with anger.

If I had one magic wish I'd round up all these pathetic so called teachers.

You know the rest!

... and yet again, the director was unavailable, surprise, surprise.

My experience, based on incidents at my kids school here, is it is always FEMALE teachers who dish it out. Why is that?

From my teaching experience in Thailand, it seems to be that some of the female teachers rule/manage the class 'by fear'.  Male teachers often have a more dominating presence in the classroom, due to their height and stronger voice.

So female teachers who are basically 'crap' at professionally managing a class of young students make up for that weakness by ruling the class through fear, with a combination of physical punishment, demand for utmost respect from the students etc.

In my time in teaching in Thailand, I met some real 'ogre' female teachers who would be more suitable employed as prison wardens.

As a retired Principal, I say again, the solution is, an independent inquiry and if found  to be true, then dismissal. This is what happens in countries where teachers are held accountable. There is no movement sideways for a month and then repeat performances can occur. Also, more than likely criminal charges would be laid. Time for this country's education system to grow up, at all levels.

The  problem runs  deeper  than this and starts  with the parents, many Thai kids do exactly what they want with no restraint from lazy parents, having kids is a big fulltime   job not to be taken lightly yet many deem it their right  just to pop em out

This is one those kids that sits with the "what do I do ? " look .until  teacher has to hold their hand and basically do it for them. Everyone else knows what to do. These kids mothers do everything for them, to the point that their hands can barely hold a pencil because their hand muscles are so weak. Half the time these kids are raised by 3 maids, grandparents and other family members that cater to their every whim. It's such a shock, when they get to school and must pick up a crayon and help themselves. Hence the confused look.

You have no idea what the child's background is, unless you know him and his family? Don't victim blame, especially when the victim is a baby!

Pathetic. But the videographer needs to go into hiding. He will be charged, not the monkey in the classroom!

No matter how bad the person is monkey is a racist comment. There are plenty of other words you can use and just shows your ignorance.

IMHO NOBODY SHOULD HIT ANYBODY. I DON'T CARE WHETHER THEY'RE A MAN, WOMAN, GAY, STRAIGHT OR AUSTRALIAN. HITTING IS WRONG!

It's strange how times change. Both physical and verbal abuse was quite acceptable when I was a kid. No one called it abuse or beating (which is what it was). A 'good hiding,' a 'spanking,' and a 'bloody good thrashing' were the acceptable terms back then. Other adults would disguise their aggression by saying something like: "He got a clip round the ear today." That could mean anything from a hard slap to a violent shake and a push to the ground. Even the local Bobby (policeman) used to give cheeky kids a slap. My beef with all this is as follows:

If it's okay for BIG people to hit little people when they're naughty, who hits the big people when they do something wrong?

And let's be honest, not all adults are good right. But if someone bigger and stronger gives them a 'bloody good hiding' every time they misbehave, the 'hitter' might have to do jail time for it. And have you noticed when big people stop hitting little people? That's right, when they get big enough to retaliate.

I know there are some old school out who may think physical discipline is okay. But surely it's more a case of an out-of-control adult, than an effective form or correction. I'm just saying.

Dont Bury yourselves in your mamby pamby utopian world.

These kids have got 16 years of hard core study to get through. The competition is great. 20 to 30 thousand kids all trying to get one of 200 seats. Not getting the seat will effect their entire working life. Come grade 5 the parents freak out when they realise their angel  cannot pass a high school test. They spend thousands on extra classes trying to fix it.

But alas, it's too late. These kids and parents need to be tough to get through the rigours of their system. This kid will toughen up and before you know it, do a great job that he will proud of.

Carry on teacher.

Then get them to do push-ups of some other unpleasant form or deterrent. But hitting, shaking, and being plain abusive to young minds is nothing short of bullying.

@greenchair Thankfully my kid goes to a school that can afford decent, qualified western teachers, not washed up failures with a lack of options.

You don't work there.

I have worked in some of those schools. I have seen dozens of grade 3 kids that can barely right their name. Their choices at university are business degrees, tourism, and art or music. Never seen a doctor, engineer , pilot, or any of the higher level degree subjects come out of a Thai international school. I've talked to parents, thai and foreign that have arrived at high school level only to realize that all their academic dreams have been crushed.

Not to mention that, if you can afford an international crap education, then your child will probably be well off and not need a high academic education. Most of the Thai schools are middle income, so high performance is essential for their child's future wellbeing.

Carry on teacher.

Teachers have no right to abuse children, and this woman needs to be sent home for a week

with no pay. The Director needs to do their job, and the School should be publically named,

along with this teacher. I hope the parents insist on charging the teacher and making her lose

her position. Disgusting woman!

Given that practically any school in Thailand can use the term 'International' in their name, I don't doubt you've worked at some. I've researched my choices well, he goes to a good one.

What is absolutely clear to me from your comments on this forum, is that you are not a good teacher - whether qualified or not. It appears that you're entirely out of your depth, perhaps working with class sizes that are too large and with a lack of support from your employers, and your way of dealing with this is to advocate violence. I had teachers like you at school, and whilst they inspired 'fear', they simply did not attain good results for their students and ended up stuck despondently in the same role for decades.

The majority of children in thailand are out of control just left to run wild like a pack of soi dogs but no child or should I say baby because that's what those children are deserves THAT!

Based on the age of my son, I would say this group are 3yo's.  My son has just turned 4.

I would undoubtedly go to jail if this happened to him, as without doubt I would be unable to control myself when handing out retribution.
