Ridiculous 2-For-1 Scam

Featured Replies

went to Promenada Mall in CM last Monday...found the perfect leather moccasin slippers I have been looking for for 4 (444?...shud I buy a lottery ticket?) months...a bit pricey at 2300 baht per pair, but hey it is BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE!!!...

I don't WANT 2 pair, I don't NEED 2 pair...I simply want ONE PAIR!!!...but could I buy ONE pair of slippers for 1500 baht???..."NO SIR, U MUST BUY TWO PAIR FOR 2300 BAHT"!!!...Thais believe this is a gr8 marketing tactic, but it is really STUPID!!!...T.I.T....

Well if your willing to pay 1500 for one you may as well pay an extra 800 for the other pair and just use them on Sundays as a bonus slipper.

It's not a scam, you are a liar for calling it that.

Shops are still free to sell what they want at the price they want.

You can call their tactics stupid, but not a scam.

If you don't want the second pair I'm sure they will sell you one pair for 2,300 Baht, don't forget the second pair is priced at 0.00 Baht.

Please explain how giving something free is a scam.

Have you seen the slippers at a lower price? If so, buy them, if not ...

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

I would never pay 2300B for one pair of slippers, let stand 2 pair....the max I ever paid for Reebok runners was 1600B, nevertheless my wife paid 4K for one pair of nikes with my money, such is life.

Perhaps your wife is smarter than you in distinguishing between originals and fakes !

Why get angry, shop staff have very limited authority to make discounts.

Just wait to next week or so when the promotion finishes and its maybe 1159 per single pair..

Keep an eye out for 70% deals too

You like to spend your money on foods (as per other topics) she likes it for shoes and others.. we are all different where we put our preference.

No you do not get two pairs .

You buy ONE shoe and they give you the other one for free.

Quite straight forward

Thanks for the lottery tip. When I win, I'll buy two pairs for 2,300 and send you the other pair for free.

you are welcome.

I buy my slippers from our local market, 20 baht a pair, similar to those in the photo. They come in many different colours and sizes. They are warm and comfortable. The last pair I had lasted 7 years. Unless I intend staying at the London Ritz hotel these slippers are good enough for me just to wear around the house. I also recommend the good quality men`s socks and gloves sold at the markets, 10 baht a pair. Every time my family visits from england they take bundles back with them.

The kicker is you could have probably got them off of Lazada for a grand. By the by, who wears moccasins in Thighland? Do you also do jesus boots with socks?:

What the hell are slippers ??

It's what we British use to beat our children with.

The GF wanted a bag, I found the store in Central but it was more expensive than she said it would be so I called to tell her, she said everywhere will give 20% discount so I asked the staff but the sale had finished. I facetimed the gf to give the bad news. The staff overheard and came over to say can do 20% discount but not going through the till. I said fine.

So you could wait until the BOGOF has finished and it is reduced back to the normal price and ask for 20% discount

Or better still find a girlfriend with cheaper tastes in bags.

I don't think I said a price, only a percentage

Do you background check other posters before commenting all the time or just randomly?

Not really, just read his replies in a topic about foods and buffets and recalled it. It just stuck with me. But I have seen this before (and am guilty of it too). We all got different priorities and like to spend our money on different things. I like to spend stuff on gym equipment or IT equipment and am less likely to spend it on expensive cars (for example). I got a gf that does not like IT stuff and would never spend money on it.

Just saying that for some spending money in one area is something they hate and consider expensive while in an other area they spend what others would say a lot.

Agreed. Buy two pairs and rotate shoes last longer that way. Then the shop will tell you they don't have two pair in same size and expect you to buy anyway.

It is ridiculous to call this a scam.

Here's another example..

Looked at a pair of Oakley shades the other day, they offered 50% discount. Tried on a few pairs found some that were ok, asked the price and was told and said but i get 50% off right?

Wrong - i was told you got 50% off on the second pair you bought..... so in reality 25% discount?

I did not make a purchase.

Just hang around the store until someone else shows an interest in the same slippers. Explain to him that together you can buy two pairs for 2,300 Baht and will each save money.

If you are really prepared to pay 1,500 Baht for a pair, you could sweeten the deal by letting the other guy have his pair for just 800 Baht.
