rooster59
Department denies reopening of Tiger Temple The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Conservation yesterday dismissed a claim by the World Animal Protection Thailand (WAPT) that it has granted permission for the Tiger Temple in Kanchanaburi to reopen it's zoo. In its official complaint to the department, WAPT alleged that Tiger Temple or Wat Pha Luang Ta Bua Yanasampanno was permitted to open a public zoo in April last year and to operate under the name of Tiger Temple Co Ltd. It then asked the department to revise the zoo permit, voicing concern over the attempt to reopen Tiger Temple for tourism. However the department director-general Mr Thanya Netithammakul denied the claim saying that Tiger Temple was permitted to build structures that will be used in zoo. He said under the existing laws any juristic person which is qualified can apply for permit to build a public zoo if it has exact location. Wildliferescue
The Director-Genral was quoted as saying the Tiger Temple will not be allowed to re-open. That is correct. The "Tiger Temple Co. Ltd." now known newly as "Golden Tiger Co.Ltd." is opening the tiger zoo on a piece of land bordering the tiger temple. SAME SAME BUT DIFFERENT! craigt3365
There's a new Tiger show here in Pattaya. Wonder if it's related to these. It's relatively new. Sick stuff.
TallGuyJohninBKK
Seems to be a whole lot of government official double-talking going on in this report. It says it's a different entity, but it doesn't say who are the principals behind the new entity and whether any of them were involved with the prior Tiger Temple. It says it's a new/different site, but it doesn't specific where/how close it is to the original location. Doesn't exactly fill one with confidence over the role of the National Parks Department folks.
