Hello guys,

My baby is only 3 months old and does not have an ID card. Will this cause any problems when applying in Penang?

The child's has my name on the birth certificate, but I still have not legitimized her. Will this cause any issues in Penang when applying for a ME Non-o.

Also the house book, whose name does it need to show? Is the mothers name enough, or do I need to show the house book with her parents name on it as well.

If the 400k isn't seasoned in my account will I encounter any issues?

My understanding is that

  • you must have the original and a copy of the birth certificate;
  • legitimization is not an issue;
  • you need copies of the the mother's house book and id card (signed by her);
  • no seasoning required of the 400k baht.

You may not get a multiple entry the first time you apply. For some reason, they appear to provide a single entry the first time (I think without financial proof) and only provide a multiple entry for second and subsequent applications.

I have not done this myself. If any of the above is incorrect, I assume someone will provide corrections.

You need the house book registry of the child not the mother. The child's could be in a different house book than the mother.

Thanks guys, how about the multi-entry?

I'll have the 400k in my account, so can anyone confirm that they will issue me a ME visa? This would be the 1st time I apply for it.

There have been mixed reports about the getting the multiple entry non-o the first time. Some have gotten one and others a single entry for the first application.

All you can do is apply for the multiple entry visa by showing the 400k baht in the bank and see what they say.

I just got my 2nd 1 year ME O based on thai children from Penang. Usual paperwork plus proof of 400K. Last year was my first application and they gave me a ME. This time he did say that I should be doing yearly extensions. That would certainly beat the hassle and heat of travel to penang. It was pretty busy, they did over 110 visas that day.

Thanks guys! I have two follow up questions which I need help with.

Currently I have a Non-b, does it have to be cancelled out before I leave the country to apply for my multi Non-o? If it does need to be cancelled can I cancel it myself with immigration, or does it have to be done by my employer?

I thought it automatically cancels itself out upon departure, but someone told me there needs to be a cancelled stamp on it before I leave the country?

Where else beside Penang can I apply for a multi non-o based on child?

On your question about "canceling the Non B visa", this can mean several different things:

  • if you really mean an unexpired multiple entry Non B issued at a consulate outside Thailand, this cannot normally be canceled inside Thailand. However, a consulate can cancel it when issuing you with a Non O visa.
  • If you mean an extension of stay based on employment for which you have no valid re-entry permit, you can leave the country by air and it is automatically canceled. If you want to leave by land, you may need some kind of confirmation (such as letter from employer) that you are crossing the border deliberately to cancel it.
  • If you have a current re-entry permit issued in Thailand to keep an extension of stay valid when you exit and re-enter Thailand, I think it best that you go to wherever the re-entry permit was issued, and ask them to cancel it.

I believe Penang is the only consulate in the region that will issue you a multiple entry Non O on the basis of Thai child. If anyone else knows of another, hopefully they will pipe up. Most likely, the only other option would be the embassy in your home country. You could get a single entry Non O at several locations, intending to apply for an extension of stay. Ask if you want more details on that option.

Ok it is a unexpired extension of stay based on employment. The extension is good up until the 20th of April 2017.

My last day of employment is April 1st 2017. I will give my work permit back to my employer on the 1st as well. I will no longer continue to work in any capacity.

So then I will want to go get my multi multi non-o/ Child. Do I need to do anything with the unexpired extension of stay in my passport before applying for the new non-o?

It would be best to have your extension canceled at immigration by using a termination letter from your employer. You can go to immigration a few days before the date on the letter and they will postdate the cancellation to that date so you have time to leave the country before that date.

If you don't have a re-entry permit you could also leave the country that would make the extension invalid when you re-enter the country. Not having the extension canceled will not effect getting the visa.
