An ex-convict was arrested by police hours after he staged a solo robbery of a bank in Nakhon Pathom’s Don Toom district and escaped with 300,000 baht in cash.

The former convict who was recently released from prison, identified by police as Pornchai Tunyart, 42, walked into Krung Thai’s bank branch in Don Toom district, wearing crash helmet to cover up his face and long-sleeve black shirt.

The bank manager, Mrs Rungrattana Wongpo, said the lone robber walked straight to counters 6-7 where two bank officials, Mrs Uraiwan Chotekulboworn and Mr Amnart Sunthornmatcha, the deputy manager, were seated.

The robber then whipped out a pistol which was later found to be a BB gun, and went toward counter 3 to grab a bunch of cash from the drawer, put them in a bag and then escaped in his motorcycle.

"The former convict who was recently released from prison...."

Probably one of the tens of thousands released early under the annual amnesties. Just plain crazy to release career criminals way to early simply as a means to reduce the appalling prison population.

I think he needs to consider a new "career" as this one doesn't seem to be working too well for him.
