Body Parts in Koh Tao do not belong to missing Russian Woman

Girl_missing_koh_tao-225x300.jpg

The five objects believed to have been human body parts, found by search and rescue divers on Koh Tao, do not match the DNA of the missing Russian woman Valentina Novozhyonova who went missing on February 15th.

All of the recovered objects as well as a T-shirt thought to belong to the girl were sent for DNA testing at the Institute of Forensic Science of the Royal Thai Police, however tests revealed the flesh was not human and DNA taken from the clothing did not match the missing woman. The revelation that the objects are animal remains is in direct contrast to earlier media reports that said they were part of a human hip and arm.

Police are now holding meetings to discuss the next steps in the search. They also wish to question a friend of the missing woman who is due to return to Koh Tao from the Philippines next week.

The mother of the missing woman has now arrived on the island.

Incompitence and general numbskullery in plentiful supply in regards to the RTP's performance so far on this whole sorry case.

A whole heap of investigative red flags, superfast DNA results and poorly thought out press releases. It must be hell for this girl's friends and family.

Embarrassing.

DNA testing completed overnight and give a negative result for the missing person.

Quite impossible for testing to be fractionally completed in this time frame....but for the RTP, they did it and of course, now, there is no body, and probably in their pin brains, no further criminal investigation needed...for now!

Remains found in sea at Koh Tao "animal not human" says governor

The bone and flesh parts found in the sea off Koh Tao are not human, initial tests indicate.

The parts were taken by helicopter to a police testing facility in Surat Thani where the initial observations showed they were not connected to missing Russian woman Valentina Novozhyonova.

As divers continued to search the bay where she is thought to have gone, police are now waiting for the return to Thailand of her "dive buddy". He is a Russian national who is presently in the Philippines, reported Daily News.

Testing of an item of clothing for DNA is also currently taking place.

Dive teams from Koh Tao Resort were scouring a 400 meter section of the bay yesterday. A blue snorkel was found and some more cloth but these are old and not thought to be connected to the inquiry.

Koh Tao police said that all options remain open in the enquiry - they have not ruled out crime, accident or that Valentina has simply gone missing somewhere and might still be alive.

Though they said yesterday that with 23 days passed since she was last seen that last possibility is fading.

Apichart Bunsrirot, the governor of Surat, confirmed Friday that initial tests showed that bone and flesh found earlier was of animal origin and was not human. DNA testing on a singlet is still ongoing and inconclusive.

A mask was also taken for testing to the mainland but has proved to be of little help.

A preliminary test to indicate if the remains are human can be done easily with 24 hrs, And people like  alphabiolabs in the UK can do a criminal service DNA test in under 6 hrs ( while the person is still in custody ). So maybe Thai don't have access to that tech but a 24-36hr test is not impossible.

Given the singlet was handled by a number of "police Professionals" there will be so much conflicting DNA the tests will not reveal much relevant.

Its' likely that the forensic scientists would know decomposed human flesh (and that of other animals) fairly quickly. They would have seen enough of it. Especially if bone tissue was found.

Would using a drone fitted with an infrared cam  be useful for detecting shallow graves in the evening when the ground temp has lowered?  morbid thought  I know, but the whole scenario seems to be turning that way.

To many scenarios going on............

Girl goes missing while diving on Koh Tao.

Buddy up's and leaves quickly.

Flesh found in the water does not match her DNA

Singlet found but not identified as yet.

This is turning into another Koh Tao mystery.  :shock1:

How long do you think a body stays warm after death?

I wonder about the dive buddy. It's entirely likely the BiB will attempt use him as a convenient scapegoat, especially if he goes back to Thailand to face their wild accusations and questionable police work. The way it's written kind of sounds like he has the choice to go back to Thailand or not. If he's innocent, he'd be crazy to go back and have the cops stitch him up! We all know they are more than capable of framing an innocent man.

Maybe he just had his flight already booked along with the rest of his travel plans. If he is coming back to help out then he is clearly innocent, I mean come on as if he killed her then managed to get rid of her body all on his own on that island. Thais have done this same as they have done the rest of the murders and Thais will cover it up like they always do.

From information as  given  it  is  strange. Especially when the  search seems  to be in the  Bay area she was  supposedly diving in  around  time last sighted.

"Due to return" may not  mean  actually will.
