BANGKOK: -- A National Police Bureau spokesman has explained the policy of the "policeman of tomorrow" or the Police 4.0 project.

One of the ways that crime will be dealt with is to equip patrols on push bikes with evidence gathering cameras.

There will also be more helmet cams on motorcycle cops and those that get about on Sec ways, said TNA. Thaivisa understand they meant Segways, the two wheeled, self balancing electric vehicle.

Songphon Watanachai announced the moves for the Region 6 Metropolitan police.

He also said that to combat crime an additional 64 street CCTV cameras would be installed in and along a 1.2km section of Yaowarat Road in Chinatown. This will make the total coverage in that area 161 cameras.

The new cameras are part of what the force calls "G-Eyes" in English though no one explained what the "G" stood for in the TNA story.

TNA also said that the public could now report serious crime through an application that they said could be found at "police I lert you".

Thailand 4.0. Oh, how they love their buzz words here.

Campaigns, banners and buzzwords. How much money and time wasted? Will their cameras be on 24/7 or not when collecting tea money?

Everything is so modern today. Police with cameras on Segways!
Maybe that would have been perfect to grab the running naked woman before 1 km running a couple of days ago.

However a wonder how many accidents it´s going to be on Segways when the concentrated policman get a phonecall and still driving full speed?
On the other hand it will be hillariously funny video clips if posted!

On pushbike? They don't usually suggest they have enough energy to pedal. And I don't see the latest 'innovations' changing that.

'On the other hand it will be hillariously (sic) funny video clips if posted!' For which the cops will mount their bikes, Segways, and even Sec ways, track down the offending poster(s), and threaten them with defamation suits.

Don't bother wasting your money!! You can spend as much as you want on cameras but the only images or video you will get is them inside their stations of police boxes.

They only go out once a month on collection day.

Not interested in law enforcement.

The flatfoot on the beat years ago did just fine. The policeman of tomorrow seems Dubai is experimenting with that. Anything has to be an improvement.
