Public Health says it can’t compensate extra medical expenses for Erawan Shrine bombing victims

The spokesman, Dr Kiatiphum Wingchit, affirmed that the ministry could not pay compensation for injured victims after a group of victims petitioned the prime minister and the Justice Ministry for additional remedy reasoning that they still have to pay for medical bills by themselves, while no state agencies would come to assist them.

The Justice Ministry later passed on the petition to the Public Health Ministry to handle the compensation.

But Dr Kiatiphum made clear that the major task of the ministry was to take care of all medical bills of all the victims under the state health insurance scheme, and their rights for chronic treatment from injuries.

However, for the demand from compensation, he said the ministry’s legal advisory team has looked through all regulations and laws, it could not pay compensation for the additional medical expenses as demanded.

Ah, I can imagine the legal page now; "person or persons will not receive additional compensation after being injured in a bomb explosion that isn't a terrorist attack"

That's the end of that, then. Can't be compassionate even if they wanted to because of these gosh darn strict laws they always enforce all the time. I guess Prayut could wave his magical A44 wand and change it, but I guess he can't because of 'reasons'. If you ask anymore questions on the topic, you'll be asked in for adjustment.

Who needs cheques and balances when you have magic and unrelentingly rigid laws?

Wouldn't it be a nice gesture if any of the fabulously wealthy people living in Thailand contributed the medical costs of those still suffering their wounds from this bombing.

I nearly choked on my coffee when I read your post.

Yes, it would be a fantastic gesture, but I am sure most ofthem have forgotten all about that episode.

More a case of "won't" rather than "can't". Let's all look forward to the cops who gave selves reward for catching terrorists, er bombers, donating that money to the victims. Get the ball rolling on crowd funding so to speak.

A pathetic situation. Besides the obvious inhumanity, do they not realise the awful publicity they bring on the country and the adverse effect on tourism? No wonder it's only R******s who are flooding the country as tourists. They are good for each other. Sorry for the discrimination but it's reality.

Disgraceful. Ex gratia payments are in order, reflecting the unique and tragic nature of the event. Stingy-minded bureaucrat trying to hide behind regulations.

A serious case for crowd funding  ..shame (LOS) on the the ruling military government to take this view when u see the millions spent on recent 'events' ..

Bet when military personnel get injured down south they are looked after  ..

P.S. Sorry 'bet' not the right word to use in Thai ..

They are too busy making donations to build new temples to the sky.

Donations to the Erawan shrine are managed by a foundation that distributes funds to, amongst others, hospitals in Thailand.

As above, wouldn't it be great if some of those donations were used to help those still suffering from the blast?

Ask some of the to$$ers, who spent 8 million Baht on a telephone number!

Maybe they would also spent their hard earned (most probably earned by corruption, not paying attention to any labor- or security laws etc) cash on something useful!

Sure they flock in by the hundreds, with all the merit to be made here!

Given that Tops supermarket were recently soliciting donations for body armour for the troops deployed in the south, and considering many of the casualties are a result of inadequate vehicles (pickups and motorcycles) being used in areas with a high risk of roadside IEDs, then I doubt very much whether there is any proper help for those suffering serious injury. Certainly not the common conscript. The sons of the well connected maybe - but then their service (if they do any) will be in "other areas".

So many people either don't read the articles or seems to have difficulties to comprehend!?

What the article clearly state is that the people injured in the blast have the right to get get the medical care payed by the Ministry of Public Health BUT the Ministry of Public Health will not pay any other compensations to the victims as that should be handled by other state agencies!

At least Tops were being proactive, wonder which one of the supermarkets will be the first to solicit donations for a submarine

No, of course not! It´s better spending them on reconciliation for the next 20 years.

For some submarines for playing navy in a duck pond.
