Liability for wife's debt

Featured Replies

You can have the car only in your name, though I hear that Thai wives most likely try to keep this a secret. Buy it with cash [why wouldn't you?].Go to the dealership alone and buy it. I bought my truck no problem, and I was only  on a tourist visa at the time. If my car, motorbike, house, apartment, were in someone else's name , I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

Agree. Village Thais are different to Bangkok Thais because they probably haven't had the same opportunities.

That's not to say a lot of them don't work very hard, it's just that getting ahead on 150 baht for a day's work is not easy.

In fairness, I also should have mentioned that we didn't find them randomly...

I have only my own bank account for keeping my salary and a car (under my wife's name).
Will any of these be taken by banks due to following debt of my wife, after getting the visa?
(frankly I'm not sure whether this debt-issue is relevant to the visa, because so far there has been no problem even I have a marriage certificate)
...

You are right, your wife's debts are not relevant to the visa. Whether you have a visa or not, you are jointly liable for any debt your wife incurred after you go married to her. If she can't repay the debts, the creditors can ask you to pay.

I must have been born on the right side of the moon.

I met my gf on the internet.

We moved n together as soon as I got here.

Her sister started the you have rich husband routine but grandmother told her to F off as the only time she came was when she needed money.

Explained debt to GF and she got out of it quickly.

Does not want a credit card,

Bought a house with no issues.

We are happy together and she even goes with me when we go to Patpong.
