Cambodia: Long terms for girl’s killers

The ringleader of a group who murdered a schoolgirl and stole her motorbike and phone was jailed for life yesterday. Six others were sentenced to between 30 months and 30 years by Phnom Penh Municipal Court.
 

The murder happened at a derelict house in the Por Senchey district of Phnom Penh in May last year.    Ringleader Chum Vireak, 22, was jailed for life. Hong Sochotta, 21, and Lim Phanhavoan, 20, received 30-year terms.  
 

Sok Sopheap, 18, Sok Sophea, 22, Leng Dany, 17, and Kroeu Chanthou, 18, were jailed for 30 months each. Mr. Vireak was charged with premeditated murder with aggravating circumstances, while Mr. Sochotta and Mr. Phanhavoan were charged with theft with aggravating circumstances.
