Hi everyone. I'll be the sponsor of my wife's visit to the UK and the last piece of the puzzle is a letter from my employer to state I am employed etc. Does anyone know of a basic standard template I could use? Many thanks.

I know the supporting documents guide says under Section 2: other documents you may want to provide – all visitors

Quote

Financial documents showing that you have sufficient funds available.  These must clearly show that you have access to the funds, such as.........

proof of earnings such as a letter from employer confirming employment details (start date of employment, salary, role, company contact details)

These are all suggestions; not requirements. You don't need a letter from your employer in order to sponsor a visitor to the UK; you don't even need to be employed!

You simply need to show that you have sufficient funds to cover the costs of the visit and the guide gives you suggestions of how to do this.

I've only ever used my bank statements for this (last there to six months to give a full picture). But if you want to prove your earnings as well then pay slips will do for this.

If you do want to use a letter from your employer, then follow the format in the guide as above.

As we will be staying at my mothers address, which is also my address, and my mother has more than sufficient funds to support my wife's stay would it be better to use my mother as the sponsor? She is retired with savings and receives a UK state pension. Thanks.

As 7by7 has said you don't need many details of your work. Just that you have sufficient finances to pay for the trip.

What is far more important is a good solid reason to return for your girlfriend. Most of the time that involves a letter from her employer explaining that she will have a job to return to when she goes back to Thailand.

The person(s) paying for the trip can be

  • the applicant (your wife),
  • the sponsor (you),
  • a third party (your mother) or
  • any combination of these.

Whoever is contributing towards the cost of the trip should provide evidence of their ability to do so and if a third party include a brief letter to say why they are doing so.

Your mother should also write a letter inviting your wife to stay with her in which she briefly describes the property and who else lives there to show that there is room for her. Obviously, sharing a room with you is fine.

As the applicant is your wife and you live in the UK, you should say in your sponsor's letter why she is only visiting you and not applying for settlement at this time.

How about the suggestion in the supporting documents guide which I quoted earlier?
