National Children Protection Committee pushes for more funds to aid children

The National Children Protection Committee is pushing for more funds to resolve ongoing juvenile problems, while preparing to construct a database of children and young people nationwide. Both the government and provincial administrations will support the funds financially.

According to Sapphasit Khumpraphant (สรรพสิทธิ์ คุมพ์ประพันธ์), Secretary of the Children Rights Center, the revised Child Protection Act requires governors and chiefs of provincial departments across the country to be a member of the Provincial Children Protection Committees. Ministries in charge of young people’s affairs are required to be a member of the National Children Protection Committee.

The committees, both provincial and national, coordinate families, schools, and communities to resolve ongoing juvenile problems which have been increasing in numbers and getting more complicated.

Mr Sapphasit reported that the Children Protection Committee in Pathumthani Province is successful in carrying out a campaign against obscene media contents which used to be a major problem of the province.
