BANGKOK: -- Police officers have embarked on a mission to seize guns from criminals in the capital.

The Patrol and Special Operation Division 191 and related units dispatched search teams to 29 target spots across Bangkok and its neighbouring provinces on Thursday morning as part of the operation dubbed “Taking back guns from criminals”.

The 200 police officers gathered in front of the 191 division office on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road at 5am to hear instructions from 191 Police deputy commander Pol Colonel Samran Nuanma and Tourism Police deputy commander Pol Colonel Nithithorn Jintakanon.

The operation to search for guns and other illegal items, according to 191 chief Pol Maj-General Surachet Hakpan, would cover 13 locations in Bangkok, 12 locations in Pathum Thani and Nonthaburi as well as four locations in Samut Prakan, Nithithorn said.

Most of these targeted spots were linked to the previously arrested criminal suspects while some were identified by various websites. Police would continue to regularly dispatch search teams until the criminal networks were gone, he said. The results of Thursday’s operations would be announced later, he said.

Does this mean the Police will hand their guns in? :shock1:

Just need to take a collection at the station. That will solve half. Good luck getting the guns from the military for the remaining 50 %.

Police launch operation to make some extra money for Songkran. By raiding the whereabouts of known criminals and those stupid enough to post on social media it is believed many guns will be seized. The resale of these guns into the community is believed to be able to provide some poorer officers with more money to spend on their mia nois over the songkran holiday.

Criminals everywhere have guns, even if illegally, while here it is actually legal for Thais to own a gun, as I understand it. So they would actually need to prove criminality to legally seize the guns. Oh, sorry,  I forget, S44

Now they won't have to buy their own weapons. The only problem is: They still have no idea how to use them in a professional manner.

What about the people that have guns, that are not criminals.

My wife and i went to visit a friend of hers last week. A pleasent enough woman of 45. She told my wife that the guy she had been involved with for the last 5 years was now getting violent. Smacking her around when he had had enough Loa Khoa in him.She then said that he was very nice when sober. She asked if we would come over one day to meet him.The she just slipped in the fact that he had a gun. That was it, i told the wife, we were going then and there.I didn't want to be in the same room as a guy with a gun, if he turned up unexpectedly. My wife was most put out, saying that he wouldn't shoot anybody. Laugh? i nearly fell off me seat. I told her that to be anywhere near a provincial Thai, fueled up on that crazy booze and in possession of a gun, who probably had no experience of being in a felang's company, was a recipe for disaster.

we went PDQ.

That night the friend called and said did we want to got to her house for dinner one night.

You can imagine the reply.

I came here to start my new life, not to end it.

interestingly, if they know who the crim's are - why aren't  they being arrested for crimes instead of being allowed to roam at will armed to the teeth -  then I woke and realised where I am and  remembered that crim's are tolerated by the BIB as part of the brotherhood.

Special operations to seize guns from criminals - seize them from students, grandfathers and almost every other person while you're at it.

On a separate note, this statement is just too damned funny: "Police would continue to regularly dispatch search teams until the criminal networks were gone." How are they going to get rid of themselves, I really wonder.
