BERLIN (Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel has urged the United States and China to put political pressure on North Korea over its nuclear programme, pressing for a peaceful resolution to escalating tensions.

"I don't put my trust in military means, but rather in political pressure being exerted on North Korea from different sides," Merkel told the Funke media group in comments released on Thursday.

"If China and the United States do that together, it won't be without consequence," she added.

On Wednesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for a peaceful resolution of rising tension on the Korean peninsula in a telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, as a U.S. aircraft carrier strike group steamed towards the region.

And where is every body now that the USA has actually done something to threaten this tyrant? If it came to it would the rest of Europe chip in? The Brits will,  because we follow the USA where ever they go.The question is, what would you do? Japan has already proved its loyalty. But then in both previous wars, the Japs and the Chinese always go on opposite sides.

I think the US should deal with N.Korea similar to how people in a big house deal with a pack of dogs at the end of the block, which annoyingly bark every night.   There's really no effective way to interact which will appease the problem.

Broadcast radio and internet into N.Korea, and hope that at least some N.Koreans watch/listen to it.   There must already be some of that happening, though it's probably illegal to listen/watch farang programs.

The more they're exposed to what's going on in the outside world, the more they (or most of them will) will want to be a part of it.

It's similar to the Middle East and how the men there suppress women. Interesting things are happening in parts of the M.East, where some women are brave enough to speak up (and act) to show they won't all be kept down like silent slaves.    There's a woman in Iran, for example, who dresses in bright colors and goes snowboarding.  The Imans go nuts, but the woman's example is gaining notice.   There's also a Saudi/American rapper who is causing anal-retentive Saudi men to have conniption fits.

Same will happen in N.Korea, if left to their own devices.  Positive changes will come forth over time.  But a nuke attack won't accomplish anything other than massive suffering for all involved.

Note:  two weeks before the fall of the Berlin Wall, Henry Kissinger was being interviewed.  He opined that the Berlin Wall wouldn't fall "for a long long time, many decades in the future, at the soonest."   He was dead wrong.

Foreign media / soap operas / movies have been and are being successfully smuggled into the DPRK. It has been going on for quite a while now and cannot be without consequence to the leadership, who are striving to improve living conditions.

When I look at footage of 2017 Pyongyang on YouTube, the city is a much more vibrant place than when I visited some 10 years ago. According to Professor Andrei Lankov, the rise of the standard of living is countrywide. Obviously Pyongyang gets the biggest and the best, but the provinces are improving too.

The situation in North Korea could be solved by China.  They could invite  the leader to China for a visit, and then just keep him.

Put the jerk in prison, and let the people of NK know that they have lost their leader permanently, and vote in someone else.

Problem solved.

A little harsh but methinks doable.

Another small victory for the US and Mr. Trump's policies.  First the meetings with the Chinese President and now Merkel, a key EU figure shouts out support.  Consensus building is beginning. Trump is a good negotiator and he's also a quick learner. There will be speed bumps but things are looking much better for the next quarter year after a rough first quarter.

I just heard from a Chinese friend in Hong Kong that Beijing has suspended flights to North Korea to clear the way for the nuclear bomb they are planning on testing.   I am not sure of the validity of this, but he is a person who keeps up with the news, both in HK and in China.

I'm a mod on a HK forum, these are rumours.

Ask your friend to check Weibo and QQ, and WeChat, lots are spreading this misinformation and Beijing is shutting them down.

Please don't spread hearsay.

Cheers.

In what way are things looking much better?  They certainly couldn't look much worse.

Merkel?

The mind-controlled, Manchurian Candidate who has been programmed by her globalist masters to be unable to say the phrase "Islamic fundamentalist terrorism", trying to prove her manhood yet again (and hopes for reelection) by advising world gov'ts with her idea of dealing with despotism, now that she has presided over the importation of hundreds of thousands of Muslim savages intent on reducing her country to a state of barbarism?

Germany cannot afford to allow her to continue her DISASTROUS immigration policy of 'just go with it', and the world can certainly do without her idea of conflict resolution.

Kim Jong-un must go (and so should she...).

Their nuclear tests are conducted underground. Their missile tests are conducted within a zone the ICAO are aware of. There is no need to suspend flights.

They aren't just launching their stuff willy nilly.
