Since some of the dealers on Lazada undercut local prices by 20%, it makes sense to buy online.

 

I have bought small, cheap items from Lazada before with no problems but not so sure about a more expensive item like a smart phone.

So, is there anything to watch out for on Lazada?

 

For example, what is the difference between “local manufacturer warranty” and “warranty by service provider” are they both good?

 

Incidentally, I was thinking of buying the Huawei P9 lite but the GR 5 2017 is only slightly more expensive with much better specs.

 

The only negative review I could find of the GR 5 2017 was that the interface and Android OS were out of date but it appears that a free update will be available fairly shortly.

 

So, any views on these phones will also be very welcome.

 

Bought a smartphone (Asus) from Lazada over 2 years ago, still working fine.

I bought my Nexus 5X from Lazada because  Google ran out of them (normal for Google Play) and it has performed as expected from a vanilla device 

I bought a Huawei Y6II from lazada in January and I'm pleased with it...it appears to have the same warranty arrangement as any phone purchased from a shop retailer, ie, warranty card in the box, etc...

 

presumably one could take the proof of purchase with the date to an OEM place and have the item serviced/repaired/exchanged as necessary during the warranty period...

I have bought 4 or 5 phones via Lazada, some in the 14,000 baht range, and all have been fine, and 20%+ cheaper than the local shops. I always pay cash and check that i get a sealed,  unopened box on delivery.

Bought I Phone 6 - no problems

Two  iPhones and a Xiaomi MiMax.

No problems at all.

As said, pay on delivery.

.......and the refurbished ones....buy or forget?

One disadvantage (not necessarily applicable to OP) might be that I bought a cheap, "ahem" inexpensive Chinese phone (delivered from China), and Thai customs refused it entry, sending it back to China citing it as being a potential security risk, this was just days after the Hua Hin explosions. Lazada were great, they told me what happened, immediately refunded my money, and on top of all that gave me a bonus cash certificate, which I put toward a Samsung phone from local distributor. I have really come to like Lazada, as long as you look carefully there always seem to be a bargain somewhere in their web pages. But, as always, Caveat Emptor.

You really have to treat each order from Lazada separately. Some items are under warranty, many are not.  You always need to scroll down the spec sheet, well below the page you get when you click on an item.  On the spec. sheet, it will usually say if there is a warranty or not.

I noticed this seller only offers a 1 week warranty whereas other sellers of the same device for close to the same price offer either a month or a year.

You are of course correct and I did not notice the short warranty! But noticed that the lazada phone is heavier than Iphone 5s generally is around the globe included that one for sale on centralonlineshopping (if original spec) How can that be and how can Lazada / seller price one phone which not say  refurbished with nearly the same price as the rest of Iphone 5s on Lazadas web which is refurbished?

Bought a Huawei Smartphone on Lazada last month on sale for B4900 and am extremely pleased with it. Have also purchased a Flat Screen TV which was delivered with a broken screen. No problem returning it and getting the refund PLUS they also refunded our return shipping costs. Use Lazada nearly every month for something and we are very satisfied.

I suspect most retailers don't put their products on a scale and develop their own specs...they simply pull the specs from another source.  Unless that source is the manufacturers own spec-sheet, errors and inconsistencies are bound to creep in.

Lazada is an amalgamation of thousands of sellers and I doubt they have the resources to review and edit each sellers copy, once again leading to inconsistencies.  If you have any questions about an items description, Lazada gives you the option of contacting the seller and that's what you should do if you have any doubt or want more answers.

You should also question the seller just what they mean by "Re-furbished"..Does it mean the phone has been closely inspected and run through a series of standardized performance tests or did it simply get a wipe down and a new screen protector?

I purchased a re-furb laptop from Amazon and it has been fine, an acquaintance bought a re-furb phone on E-bay and he said it looked like it had been pulled from a swamp. 

"Buyer beware" prevails here...

I would be ok with buying both new and refurbished phone from Lazada but like a new or second hand car it would be a stretch to think its just fine to buy a new or second hand Mazda but with the engine specification of a Lamborghini or a Nissan March! Anyway for me to much headache with have to contact the sellers when buy from Lazada because I expect to get what they sell and IMO a Iphone 5s should be a Iphone 5s either its new or refurbished.

I too have purchased smartphones from Lazazda, in fact, just purchased the new Xiaomi mi6, 6/64, all have been very fast delivery service. Have more items on order now.

I have purchased many things from Lazada. The last thing was a Huawei MediaPad 3. I have never had a problem except for things shipped from overseas. I refuse to order anything that is not stocked in Thailand.
