latest requirements for 90 day non-imm visa in Vientiane, Penang, Katmandu

Featured Replies

I want to apply for a 90 day non-imm visa to be later extended to a 1 year stay based on requirement. I have 800 K in a Thai bank account.

I am considering 3 places for obtaining the visa: Vientiane, Penang and Katmandu. What are the latest document requirements in these three locations.

Where are you located now. You might be able do a change to a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) at you local immigration office.

Vientiane wants a Thai medical certificate,  a police clearance certificate along with a bank letter and bank book showing the 800k baht.

Penang and Savannakhet Laos will do them with bank book to prove 800k baht in the bank and letter confirming you are retired from your embassy. Many people get a income letter from their embassy showing a small amount of income to meet the requirement.

You will probably will not be able apply in Kathmandu  since the will normally on issue visas to residents there.

Do all the Embassies/Consulates request 800,000 baht as financial proof.

Friend, single, under 65, on an extension based on retirement, (combination method) just realised he's left it to late to top up his account before his next extension, so will need a Non Imm O 90 day Visa to start again.

They will accept a combination of money in the bank and income.

He might want to check with his local office to find out if they require the money to be in the bank for 3 months using the combination option. The written rules do not require it.

Thank you Joe, I'll tell him to check Immigration out first.

Failing that would Vientiane be his best option (living NW Thailand).

Thai bank passbook and letters from his Pension providers enough documentary evidence? OR

letter from Thai bank and letter from Embassy?,

Bank book and letter from bank and income letter from embassy (attach copy and show original so it can be sued for the extension) totaling 800k baht.

Both the medical and police clearance can be done here.

Savannakhet or Penang might be better options.

Savannakhet would be better, but cannot find info on their website about the requirements.

Penang;

For a Non Immigrant “O” Visa, requirements may vary depending on the case. In the case of a Non-Immigrant ‘O” visa for retirement, you will need 800,000 baht tin a Thai bank, a copy of your Thai bank book, pension details or proof of a sustainable income, 2 passport-sized photos, and you must be over 55 years of age.

That would work for him and as you say he could use the Embassy Income letter for his extension (valid 6 months)

I would not trust anything on a most embassy and consulate websites.

Savannakhet want both money in the bank and a income letter according to recent info I got by PM from a member.

Penang will want the money in the bank proven by a bank book and a income letter. They want proof of retirement from an embassy which the income letter proves.

From the personal reports you receive Joe, which Embassy/Consulate would you recommend, or would you advise he contacts them first.

They are not all personal reports. A lot of reports appear in the middle of a topic.

Penang or Savannakhet at this time are the best locations.

Penang if doing only the income option the letter from the embassy is enough. If 800k baht in the bank the income letter is also needed to prove a person is retired or 800k baht total income and money in the bank.

Savannakhet wants the income letter for proof of retirement with 800k in the bank or some amount in the bank with the income letter showing 65k baht or for the combination method a total of 800k baht

Thank you.
