200,000+ Thais are paralyzed

Over 200,000 Thai people are suffering from paralysis, and the National Health Security Office (NHSO) is working together with the Ministry of Public Health to take care of these patients while reducing the disabled and death rates in the country.

Md. Sa-nguan Nitayarumphong, the NHSO secretary, together with the representatives from the Public Health Ministry and the Neurological Society of Thailand signed a memorandum of cooperation to help patients with cerobrovascular disease. Md. Sa-nguan said people have to be vaccinated within three hours once the symptom has developed, and only 1.96 percent of them have been injected on time. The disease ranks as the number four killer of Thailand.

It is urgent for the hospitals nationwide to have a complete system to take care of these patients. Starting from January 1st next year, suspected patients can be delivered to the hospitals under the Ministry of Public Health.

The Department of Medical Services indicated that cerobrovascular disease can be prevented by avoiding the consumption of meat and high-cholesterol food items. Frequent exercise is also advised.
