Hi! If I can show at least 20k in my account via bank book is that sufficient to not pay the 500 baht under the table fine? I'm already having to pay bloody 20,000 overstay charge!

Thanks

I think an important question you need to answer before going any further is: can you clear your overstay by leaving at Ranong? Many land borders will not allow this when people are on long overstays. At those exit points, they will tell you to exit via an airport. I am unsure of the policy at Ranong. That is even assuming your overstay is less than 90 days. (I assume you are aware that you face blacklisting if your overstay is 90 days or more.)

Generally speaking, if immigration on entry demand to see 20,000 baht equivalent in cash or travelers checks, they do not regard a bank book as equivalent to either.

Why have you started another topic. You could of posted in this one you did before.

Unless you have 40 days of overstay or more you will pay less than the 20k baht max fine for the overstay.

If immigration want to see 20k baht for to meet the financial proof they will want it to be in cash.

I suggest you go to a different border crossing than Ranong.

Ranong wont let u leave thailand unless u have a valid visa to come back ( ie ur on a METV, NOn O or B)

they do not issue Visa exempt stamps

They have been allowing a crossing for a visa exempt entry again for some time now. Some other crossings to Myanmar that were not allowing them are now allowing them since the 2 visa exempt entry rule at land border crossings came into effect.

Right. And when you return the microscope comes out.

that is news to me...

I have been told, yes u can enter thailand from  Burma and get ur 15 or 30 day visa exempt entry, BUT they wont let u leave at the Ranong crossing in hopes of returning right away and receiving a visa exempt entry.

It has been posted on this forum several times that the are allowing  crossings for visa exempt entries again.

Since the 2 entry rule came into effect all visa exempt entries are 30 days now. The 15 day rule was rescinded.

So to say what happened. I'm on a Non B multiple entry visa, have to do a run every 3 months. I'm a work permit holder also. I had 39 days overstay.

So they ask me why I have such long overstay, I explained my reason and apologised. Then they tell me I have to goto the airport and cant do it here for long overstay. (same shit they gave me last time when I had 1 day overstay because of an error bangkok airport made)

So feeling tired and not wanting to prolong my agony I ask them can I pay a little bit extra. He sits me down, trusty rip off calculator comes out and they ask me to pay an extra 2000 baht tea money.

On the way back I slipped 500 in my passport in case they decided to give me another going over coming back in and wouldnt accept my bank book as proof. They returned my passport with my 90 day extension and 500 baht still inside...

So corrupt as ever but the 500 baht back was maybe cause I took it quite well and was quite friendly with them during the ordeal cause I was just relieved to not have bigge problems and it was my fault.

Ps Burma border is so friendly these days. The same guys that have been there for at least 8 years, kids grown up. They don't hassle you like they used to they just politely give information and there is a TIP box if you want to and the Immigration officials there are quite friendly and nothing like the Ranong side of things.
