BANGKOK, 1 May 2017 (NNT) - The Department of Tourism is set to launch an operation to crack down on illegal tour agencies in an effort to improve the Thai tourism image.

Department of Tourism Director-General Wannasiri Morakul said members of the Board of Division of Tourism Business and Guide Registration instructed her department to crack down on more than 1,000 illegal tour agencies offering tour packages to tourists.

The move came after the Department of Tourism received numerous complaints from tourists who claimed they had been overcharged or tricked into hiring a dodgy tour company.

The Department of Tourism will work with the Thai Travel Agents Association, the Association of Domestic Tourism and tourist police to inspect tour agencies on Khao San Road, Phat Phong Roda, and around Asok Intersection. The tour operators will face charges immediately if found operating without a permit.

They are going to eradicate almost all of the tour operators here?

If they do away with the dodgy ones, wont be many left.

If its not broke don't fix it.
