A South African man was yesterday sentenced to life by Phnom Penh Municipal Court for trafficking more than half a kilo of cocaine from Brazil. Jacobus Dawie Botha, 31, was also fined 40 million riel (about $10,000), presiding judge Kim Ratnarin said.
 

“If he disagrees with the judgment, the accused has the right to challenge it in the appeal court within a month,” he said. Mr Botha was arrested at Phnom Penh International Airport in September last year after police found 100 plastic-wrapped capsules of cocaine in his stomach.
 

He had flown from Brazil via Dubai and Bangkok before arriving in Cambodia. Cambodian police had received information about the suspect’s activities from anti-drug authorities in Brazil.
