BANGKOK: -- A father hugged his long lost son yesterday after they had been parted for 15 years.

The son - who only remembered he was called "Am" - ran away from home when he was seven or eight and took to a life of begging in the Sanam Luang and Khao San road area of Bangkok, reported Daily News.

When he grew up he got a job working in Hua Hin. But when work colleagues went home to their families on holidays he began to think of finding his own flesh and blood.

So he contacted a foundation called Krajok Ngao who trace missing people.

Am could only remember that he was brought up by some railway tracks near a klong and that his dad was called Buntham and his mum went by the nickname of Maew.

The foundation worked with police until they got a lead that led them to a community in the Bang Seu area of town.

Yesterday at a police center Buntham Pailamoon, 54, wept as he was reunited with his runaway son. He said that he had tried to find his son without success and always waited for his return one day.

As he hugged his son he said that he was so happy and thanked all those who had made it possible to see him again.

I doubt id needed for begging or labour low paid job. Hopefully they can get their lives back on track.

Have a great day

Nice to hear something positive. Keep up that work.

What happened to his Mom?

A heartwarming story - highly unusual in that the son deserts the father.  Imagine the flood of tears if all runaway Thai fathers were re-united with their children and made to pay maintenance for the missing years.

How can a child of seven not even know the name of the area they live in? The mind boggles!
