Auditor-General Pisit Leelawachiropas

BANGKOK: -- The Royal Thai Navy will provide details of its plan to buy Chinese-made submarines, the first of which costing more than Bt10 billion, to top officials of the Office of Auditor-General.

The team led by Auditor-General Pisit Leelawachiropas will visit the Navy headquarters and to meet with Admiral Leuchai Reuddit, the Navy chief of staff, who is the chairman of the submarine acquisition committee.

The terms of reference for the multi-billion-baht purchase will be provided to the Auditor-General team to facilitate its investigation of the controversial scheme, which requires the government to make instalment payments for at least seven years.

Pisit has previously said the investigation would be conducted with respect to the procurement deal being “highly confidential”.

Please do probe, and you'll find that Thailand for some inexplicable reasons,

loves  to go to bed with China buying armors, weapons, vessels and subs

on a massive scales, not to mention infrastructures projects into the billions....

No doubt the probe will conclude that there will be more than enough t for all and sundry.

So the Auditor general will probe the sub purchase  WHY????

The boys want new toys, and will get them no matter what.

They dont care that the country will be in debt to China for years.

What is there to probe......three submarines for the price of two. Well done I say.

I wouldn't want to work as an auditor here  ...  not and try to do the job properly  ...

Various/sundry "authorities" seem to be queuing at the trough.

I assume the Auditor-general will "find" that the process was OK, once he's been "read in"?

Whitewash

Wasn't he the AG who declared that the Hawaii trip was free from ALL irregularities without providing details? He also did said days before that there must be reform for extravagance trips. Who's his daddy? Don't get too excited as this just another case of hot air.

Was reading analysis articles from years ago, about Thailand's submarine aspirations.  China's moves in the South China Sea was rationale mumbled by the Thai Navy Chief at the time.  But it's about prestige and "keeping up with the Jones' " as other SEA neighbors have or seek to acquire subs.  Now that the military is in the driver's seat, they built the sub base and training facility at Sattahip already.  The subs are coming, no doubt.

The "subs" will be a huge money spinner bringing the hi-so chinese here on lucrative package deals :clap2:

Also recently reported, The Central African Republic is shopping for an aircraft carrier.

Both purchases make perfect sense to the procurers.

As the "procurement deal being “highly confidential” there's a chance that what has been said publicly about the purchase may not be the complete story as in deceptive, misleading or "otherwise." When the military speaks to the public about its procurement decisions, it behooves it to say nice things about itself.
