ROI-ET: -- A driver and his conductress wife were both fined 5,000 baht each after a fight with a monk that went viral online.

The incident has caused widespread comment among Thais most of whom were appalled by violence directed towards a monk. Though some felt that it was the saffron robed man who directed the first blow and got what was coming to him, reported Daily News.

Both staff of the Roi-Et to Don Tan service were called in by the Roi-Et land transport department yesterday to explain what happened.

They were Pallop Prasert, 35, the driver and his wife who took the money Sawitree Srisombat, 38.

Pallop admitted to Kritpat Mukdaprasert of the land transport department that he was fighting with the monk. He said that the monk had been complaining about the cost of his ticket all the way while Pallop said the charge was in accordance with the regulations. The monk then spat on the floor, he claimed.

When they got to the Phon Thong bus station he said he asked the monk to get off the van and an argument developed. The monk then hit his wife and the fist fight began in earnest.

He was fined 5,000 baht for impolite behavior and fighting with a passenger. His wife was fined 5,000 baht for not having a license to be a conductress.

Both were ordered to attend training.

The operator of the service - Roi-Et Selaphoom Co Ltd - was fined 40,000 baht for not training their staff properly.

The company has withdrawn the service indefinitely.

I hope she got a few good digs in.

You'd thinks monks are much more calm and placid people with all that

meditations and attaining enlightenments and self control.. apparently

not so much...they're just like any of us...

Monkman hits a woman.

Monkman attacks a man from the back.

Monkman does not get arrested.

Monkman was complaining about what he had to pay? I thought Monkmen can not touch money?

Come to think of it, Monkmen can not touch women too....

Just another case of a monk behaving badly.

The monk hit the lady, driver did the correct thing, should have laid the scum bag monk out.

Monks should never touch a female, yet this scum bag slapped a lady and walks away free.

Disgusting behaviour, should have been fined/ defrocked.

The driver may have overreacted but he was just responding to violence against his wife by the monk.  In the same position I would have smacked him on the jaw.

Don't forget, monkman spit on the cabs floor. Monkmen are just as materialistic with fragile egos as the majority here.

I wonder was the video available to the Land Transport Dept. before they issued the fine. Appears to be totally unjust to fine a man for defending his wife from an attacker?

PS. And then to defend himself from a follow up attack from the same attacker.

The saffron clad layabouts yet again behave as they wish while an honest burgher and his wife get the tits fined off them.

You don't lay a hand on a man's wife and hide behind saffron.

Apparently when a monk is assaulting your wife the thing to do is stand there and watch.

I wonder if the Monk had killed someone in a car accident while drunk and was hiding out from the authorities?

Geezer in orange robes gets off scot-free....... ok.

He should be de-frocked.

  TiT

  Male assaults woman .

 Woman fined ...

Phra hits woman . Husband throws a bunch of punches . None connect flush . Phra disengages from fight .  Phra waits till Husband has back turned and retaliates . Gets owned once more . When husband trips on concrete block , Phra sees an opportunity and attacks again .

Interesting mentality .  Only fight women or if vs a  man only when their back is turned or on the ground .  Weasel .

Despicable!!!!! It was the thai buddhists monk that did the first blow and that to a woman!!!! SHould he not be disrobed. I stopped believing in Thai buddhism, Monks and Thai Temples a long time ago....if you think that you can get any merits by donating to thai buddhist temples or monks.....think again.

The monk represents Buddha I think. But over the past years in Thailand the respect for the Buddhist religion and it's monks seems to have taken a major down turn.

What is going on in Los? Amazing Thailand indeed!

Monks can not touch money ........

You are right, they like to touch credit cards only  .....

.

They have all kinds of guys in the orange robes, the day they let criminal Suthep in proved that.

This guy hit the wife of the driver first, so the driver's reaction is correct and the monk should be fined and fired, bastard in an orange robe.

Me? That "monk" would not have walked away. He would have been carried...

Even monks need to let off some steam and show some aggression, but just don't make a habit of it.

Not a Monk, just another thug in daily news.

classic ,''ROBE RAGE'' in Thailand...

The monk clearly started the fight. He also broke the golden rule about direct female contact.
