Moving House Within Thailand/transport

Featured Replies

Hi! I am trying to move to Chiang Mai after 8 months in Bangkok. I have accumulated a fair amount of stuff, TV, bookcases, clothes, kitchen stuff, etc. I also have a small motorcycle. I think all this stuff would fit in the bed of a small pickup, maybe one with a 'cage' on top.

Does anyone know how I might arrange that, and how much I would expect to pay for the trip? I would like to just find a private owner that would be prepared to take me and my stuff up to Chiang Mai and return on his own, if that is possible.

I have also been told that it is possible to take a motorcycle up on the train, has anyone taken a motorcycle AND many boxes as 'accompanied baggage' at a reasonable extra fee?

Any ideas most appreciated.

I am sure you could use the train but that would require transport to and from as well as train cost so really doubt you would be ahead. I would ask around among Thai to try and find truck/driver as they are available (but I don't know where). Many times you will see trucks of various size parked on wide side streets with signs/phone numbers indicating they are for hire. Perhaps if you post your location someone can remember a soi near where you are?
