DPM Somkid: Macron's victory means stable EU

 

 

BANGKOK, 09 May 2017, (NNT) - According to the Deputy Prime Minister for economic affairs Somkid Jatusripitak, the victory of Emmanuel Macron in the French presidential election means a more stable European Union. 

Deputy Prime Minister Somkid stated that Macron's triumph has eased the tensions and worries looming over the EU bloc. 

Regarding the effect on the Thai economy, Somkid believes that Macron's victory will only have a slight impact on the Thai economy because Thailand's economic growth relies more on Asia's economic stability. 

Despite the notion, he indicated that the world economy and Thai exports will be better off if the EU remains strong. 

Meanwhile, Deputy Government Spokesperson Lt. Gen. Weerachon Sukhontapatipak stated that the government will soon send a letter of congratulations to the new French president. 

He said the Kingdom and France have been allies for 161 years, adding that Macron is a young leader equipped with the knowledge and expertise, but most importantly the capability to lead France. Lt. Gen. Weerachon believes the centrist leader will continue the long-standing bond shared between the two nations. 

Lt. Gen. Weerachon stressed that Thailand will adhere to its foreign policy of maintaining mutual trust and respect under the common interests with France.

He also said that he's going to reform the EU and that certain policies need reviewing urgently.

 

Mrs. Merkel said earlier this week that there are no policies that require urgent reform in the EU.

 

If she is re-elected, which is looking likely, then Macron will find it very very hard to change anything she doesn't want changing. So yep, stability.

 

If Macron does manage to improve the French economy and reduce unemployment substantially, he might get away with it. Otherwise, France could indeed descend into some unpleasantness.
