DIP says 85% of IP violations removed from major retail spaces

BANGKOK, 11 May 2017 (NNT) – The Ministry of Commerce has pointed out that its crackdown on intellectual property (IP) infringements has wiped away over 85 percent of goods at popular retail spaces such as Talad Rong Krua and Maboonkrong Shopping Center.

Director General of the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) Tossapol Tangsubutr disclosed that by working with police, the Department of Special Investigations (DSI) and IP holders, the agency has been able to investigate and arrest a large amount of copyright violators.

The department has been especially successful in persuading retail centers such as Sa Kaeo province’s Talad Rong Krua and MBK shopping center to join in the crackdown on IP violations, removing up to 85 percent of stores with such illegal goods. The office will nonetheless continue its work until such places are rid of IP violations.

DIP has also been able to create Red Zones, areas that once were rampant with copyright infringement but are now strictly controlled. With Saphan Lek now cleared of illicit goods, DIP has moved on Wireless Road in the hopes of replicating its success. Another target is Pantip Plaza but only 5-6 vendors are suspected to be left. ?
