Italian students meet officials as part of observation of Thai street food

BANGKOK, 12 May 2017 (NNT) – The government has affirmed its intention to organize sidewalks, presenting its new approach to Street Food to a delegation of Italian students visiting Thailand to learn about its status as one of the world’s premier destinations for street side cuisine.

A group of students from the European country of Italy have met with Deputy Spokesperson to the Prime Minister’s Office Maj Gen Weerachon Sukhontapatipak as part of a visit to the Kingdom to learn about Thai street food, which was recently named the best by news channel CNN. The group are looking into Thai policies on supporting and organizing street food.

The group asked about new stricter measures imposed on street food vendors and if they would up end the practice in Thailand. Director of the Bangkok Municipal Works Bureau Sajja Khontrong, who was also present at the meeting, assured that organization of street food would not rid them from the country but would rather ensure their orderliness, cleanliness and safety. While he acknowledged that the stricter measures have removed some vendors, he assured that in the interest of consumers and the national image, the regulations are necessary.

Maj Gen Weerachon used the opportunity to promote the new Street Food application, which lists information on street side dining in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Phuket. The app was created by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand Foundation, the Tourism Authorityo f Thailand and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.

Need to be more specific here please. Exactly which part of Europe?

' street side cuisine ' ??

Oh please. Some more blah-blah-a-blah ... TAT involved by any chance?!

So why arnt the italian delegation visiting their own cities and promoting any old Mario to start a burner in the middle of the sidewalk, flood a little oil, plastic bags and food scraps.  Im all for street food but the approach of the government to restrict it to specific areas is necessary for any developed city.  Its good for hygiene, safety (walking down streets), animals (who can choke on satay sticks), the environment (obviously), health (get your dose of lead) and for the vendors themselves who dont need to choke down car fumes to sell food.
