BANGKOK, 18 May 2017 (NNT) - The Ministry of Commerce plans to promote at least 500 Noo Nit budget food shops to star-rated ones this year to encourage operators taking part in its Noo Nit Pa Chim project to keep improving their standards.

Deputy Commerce Minister Sonthirat Sonthijirawong disclosed that 387 out of 2,000 short-listed Noo Nit food shops had been awarded Star certificates for their outstanding ability to offer ready-to-eat meals that meet the Ministry’s requirements, including the maximum price of 35 baht per dish, good taste, quality materials and cleanliness.

Despite its plan to register over half a thousand star-rated Noo Nit outlets this year, the Ministry of Commerce insists that applicants are judged by their attention to quality above all else. The Department of Internal Trade is preparing to put all the award-winning Noo Nit shops in its budget shopping application to publicize them.

Starting in 2014, Noo Nit Pa Chim is a collaborative project by the government, private and civil sectors to help lower consumers’ expenses by introducing them to food outlets that sell ready cooked meals at no more than 35 baht per dish. There are currently 12,200 participating operators in the capital and other cities.
