or rather than visiting porn sites you can use peer to peer file sharing to fulfill all your porn requirements, along with music and books...

I use kazaalite as my p2p client which you can get from here

klitekpp241e.exe @ http://www.nortaac.com/

create a file on your computer called shared and put some files in it, so when you configure kazaalite you can point at the folder as your shared resource.

standard proceedure... have a personal firewall ( recommended zonealarm @ www.zonelabs.com hunt for the free version )

download .. run and install both spybot search and destroy , adaware

( the addresses for the above three programs have been posted many times )

before you download anything check that it is what you expect, eg. look at the filename and file extension...picture .jpg .bmp .gif , music .mp3 , movie .mpeg .mpg .avi

be aware that some movie players(microsoft media players) can be used as a shell and have the ability to open your default web browser and direct it to a site of their choosing..

there are many peer to peer clients out there, but most contain a fair amount of spyware. kazaalite is kazaa with the spyware removed.( allegedly, though so far it seems to be true )

i seriously doubt you'll get into any trouble with the law. it's the propagation or transmission of "obscene material" that's illegal in Thailand, not the viewing of it.

Why the HE11 would you need to porn here? Just get two girls and they can do a live show for you. :D Beats the ###### outa any shows I've ever seen! :o

Basically correct, unless you have some other troubles already. Don't we read all the time that so and so farang was arrested and, while searching his home, the police found porn and confiscated the computer... :D

I believe more people are visiting the relative sites then do admit in here. Perhaps to see some exotic beauties, i.e. western? :D

Interesting, how many people asked me already how to clean up the internet-traces, or told me they downloaded some 'washers". When I commented that the relevant software only is offered in porn-pages, red face. :o

I also wonder how many times this happens when there was never any porn in the house to start off with?

I wouldn't bet on what you say.

Interpol/Thailand

Section 287 of the Penal Code

for the purpose of trade or by trade, for public distribution or exhibition, makes, produces, possesses, brings, or causes to be brought into the Kingdom, sends causes to be sent out of the kingdom, takes away or causes to be taken away, or circulates by any means whatever, any document, drawing, print, painting, printed matter, picture, poster, symbol, photograph, cinematograph film, noise tape, picture tape or any other thing which is obscene;

shall be punished with imprisonment not exceeding three years or fine not exceeding six thousand baht, or both.'

If you view it, that means you have it or you bring it. A picture is a picture even though you have it on your monitor. You may have it temporarly but the time you are viewing it, you have it.

Just don't get caught while you're viewing.

As I said in other threads

Eighteen Expats Held For Child Porn

brings into the Kingdom

circulates by any mean

Downloading from internet is circulate through the wire to get into one's computer and if your computer is in Thailand, so that means IT IS AN OFFENCE.

Even possessing an audio tape with your girlfriend erotic screams is an offence :o . Draw or paint anything in your diary or have a look to porn websites is the same.

Of course there is the law and the people who sells and buy porn CDs openly in Bangkok.

No problem untill you get into even whether I think that if they should enforce this law, there would be not enough jails in the Kingdom. :D

The punctuation of the opening paragraph is pretty ambiguous. It looks to me like all subsequent clauses are dependent on If for the purpose of trade or by trade, for public distribution or exhibition.... In other words, if I'm just viewing/possessing porno and have no intention of trading it, distributing it or exhibiting it, I am OK. But you'd really need to read the original Thai text to be sure. Anyway, the police will interpret it in any way that suits them at the time.

If it is ambiguaous, don't do it

If you can be deported for it or banged away don't do it

I don't find anything ambiguous with the ponctuation of the opening paragraph. As I'm used to deal with laws, I find this one pretty clear.

It's got 11 distinct penalty clauses which each one is very clear.

As the same, I don't think we need the Thai text to be sure as this is from the official website of Interpol.

I agree on the fact that the police will interpret it in any way thats suits them at the time and apparently it's always in the same way.

As well if it was legal, why this is always found in the newspapers. Have you ever seen journalists who write articles about the legal staff people have in their houses?

Be serious.

At the end, I entirely agree with Basher.

And you've never come across a Thai document incorrectly translated into English? :o

The official printed penal code has it like this:

"Section 287.-- Whoever:

(1) for the purpose of trade or by trade, for publication or exhibition, makes ... blah blah blah ... shall be punished..."

The first two clauses beginning with "for" appear to define the intent of the action, while the rest specify the actions and the material they relate to. That's why it seems to me that written this way the law depends on what you do with the obscene material. Of course, it could just be a dodgy translation.

But the bottom line is that any foreigner who has been arrested and has police rummaging around in his home has a lot more to worry about than porno on his 'puter.

Here's a legal opinion from my company's lawyer: Simple possession of porn isn't a crime under Section 287, because it depends on what is done with it. He went on to say: "i've searched in www.krisdika.go.th (the state council website) and

supreme court verdicts. almost all sexual [porn] related offences have to have special intention such as for trade or circulating."
