hi

What would be approx cost of a basic brochure web site....about 3 pages in english...and the same with text in Thai? (and photo on site)

I am in Pattaya...so approx cost of someone local doing me one?

And getting some search engine ranking done too?

Thanks

Gerry

You can't just "get ranking done". Site design, links to your site, and quality content will eventually build ranking. In the short term your only way of building an artificial ranking is to buy ads that will be triggered by keyword searches. Google, Yahoo and MSN all have this service but in my experience Google Adwords is the better traffic driver, although MSN seems to have better quality (but far fewer) hits.

Going to someone who says they will get you ranked high on Google or Yahoo is often a scam that feeds your site to link farms and winds up getting you blacklisted from the search engines.

So I should get out Perry Marshalls Google Ad words books and so the job myself.

Also I think its 300 dollars or something to submit through Yahoo, and you get put on to free serach engines too?

Spend $30 for a month of Yahoo search ads which work like adsense (budget $1 per day) and get listed instantly on Yahoo as well as the other search sites they bought and killed (Altavista, Alltheweb, etc).

The $300 is a waste of money.

My friend can set you one and host it for about £500, it then works out about £250 every year for hosting.

That's over $40us per month for hosting a six page site. Thats more than some places want for a virtual dedicated server :o

A bit of advice, never have someone controlling all aspects of your site (design, hosting, marketing, etc) or you can wind up at their mercy. When they quote you ridiculous prices it's not a good sign.

Until your site starts to generate alot of traffic just keep it on a $3/mo Godaddy.com account and hire someone to put the design together for you. No need start out with a huge overhead. The price quoted for hosting above is laughable.

I second that...the price is not quite right...

Instead of Godaddy.com i use 50megs.com which is nice to use and a banner free site with subdomain costs about 1000THb / year ...not a bad price i'd say...

Define brochure site please. Most of the sites I develop have adsense built in and some have paypal also built in. Once you open a google account, you are set to go. You set the budget for the artificial ranking that they give you.

The days of submitting a url and it then works, are over. Everyone wants money, unfortunately.

PM me for exact details, so I can better give you an intelligent quote. No, it won't be near 35,000 baht either.

Gerry,

If you want to use some cheap (free) solution you could consider creating a space on http://spaces.live.com

and you get a url like http://zoltannyc.spaces.live.com/ or you could create a blog with http://www.blogger.com

In order to increase web visibility you have to submit your site to search engines like http://www.submitexpress.com/

or search google for "submit search engine"

For web site hosting I'm using http://www.godaddy.com and pay around $103 for three years of hosting including domain registration.

one of my sites is http://www.iso17369.org/

Design-wise search for web hosting that uses some web publishing platform such as http://wordpress.org/ or dotnetnuke or mambo etc. and with minimal knowledge you can design or use themes created by the community. (my site at godaddy uses wordpress)

I must be behind the times then as my first quote was £6000, then 2nd £3000 and eventually i settled for one at 500. This was 2 years ago though.

If you host a site with US based godaddy.com, what's the page access speed normally like from Thailand? With the 'net problems we are experiencing at the moment, most US sites are loading very slowly for me, if at all.

I use goDaddy.com for all my domain registrations, you can't go wrong with them.

For hosting, I found a free bannerless host at www.awardspace.com. Sign up for their free account. You get 200 Megs of space and 5 Gigs of monthly transfer. I've been using them for a few months and haven't had any problems.

As for web design, I can do that for you too. You can check out my site at www.darronbeetge.com. A brochure type site (ie. 5 Pages, customised design and basic content management system won't set you back more than 10000 Baht).

Depends what hosting package your want. Ipower has good hosting running at $95 for the mid-level package which includes the domain name.

All in for my buddy to do it it'll cost you about 20,000 baht.

Some can do this cheaper but don't expect top notch quality or decent SEO.

Be sure to go with a professional service that is registered company. Remember you can save a dollar or two but can then usually count on doing it twice.

Fully agree with mouse.

Design wise try to use some clean and lean Web 2.0 style design, the content should be the primary and the presentation should help to convey the content.

I looked at some Thai websites KTB, Toyota, Honda etc - they are absolutely horrible, starting with a useless Flash intro that gives nothing, very bad presentation of products and bad navigation - like KTB you need to open 5 windows to get the today's exchange rate.

I asked my brother-in-law (he is thai and manager-owner of an advertising company) and told me that only this way web designers developers can ask more mony for their work.

Identify your audiance and design for them not for you and don't trust too much to designers......
