WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former FBI Director James Comey is delaying an appearance before the U.S. House Oversight Committee that had been planned for Wednesday, the panel's chairman said on Monday.

In a post on Twitter, Chairman Jason Chaffetz, who will step down from his seat in Congress in June, said he had spoken with Comey who told him that before testifying in public he wanted to speak with former Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating ties between Russia and the presidential election campaign of Donald Trump.

An aide to the Oversight Committee could not confirm when the hearing would be rescheduled.

President Trump fired Comey on May 9. After reports that Trump asked Comey to stop investigating his campaign advisors ties, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein hired Mueller as special counsel to lead the investigation, a move expected to delay congressional hearings into Russian ties.

Comey has to be very careful in everything he says and does, from now on.  He's always been careful, but now he needs to be even more so, ....now that the prez and his buddies are on the warpath against him.

I wouldn't want to have Trump as an enemy.   He leaves no dirty trick  unconsidered.  Indeed, Trump has often told someone who he wronged (in essence): "go ahead and sue me.  I don't care.  I've got high-priced lawyers up the kazoo. You'll be lucky to get a case to court within the next 60 years, and your attorney-retainer fees will bankrupt you much sooner than that."

This might be in reaction to Flynn declining the Senate subpoena and claiming the 5th. Comey may have his own story to tell Mueller before he testifies in a public hearing with the U.S. House Oversight Committee. Perhaps as a precaution to know from Mueller what confidential information Comey can reveal in the public hearing that won't harm the ongoing FBI investigation.

It's weird.  Trump craves blind loyalty and adulation so much, that he essentially forces any he interacts with, who doesn't openly praise him, to be an enemy.

Comey would never have crossed Trump, if Trump hadn't acted in such assinine ways recently.  Now, just by telling some bland truths, Comey will be skewering Trump over hot coals - tho Comey doesn't want to skewer anyone.

It's like if you were an eyewitness to a robbery of a store.  You would let it pass, and go on with your normal routine, except the robbers found you and took you to the police station.  Then the cops ask you to tell what you saw.  You tell the truth.  Now the thieves hate you.

Well put. In short, Trump's simply an egotistical a$s.

How can you possibly know what Comey might have done?

.. and your metaphors are bizarre.
