South African man arrested with fake passport

SA KAEW: -- Immigration police announced yesterday that they had arrested a South African man carrying a fake passport.

 

Nelson Johnson, 38, was detained by Sa Kaew immigration and handed over to Klong Leuk police after suspicions were aroused concerning his passport, reported Thai Rath.

 

A check revealed it did not have a security strip and representations to the South African embassy in Bangkok confirmed that it was indeed fake.

 

Johnson was interrogated but though he admitted the document was fake he refused to reveal where he had acquired it.

 

Police are investigating possible links to drugs crime and are trying to find out why the suspect was crossing the border into Cambodia.

Won't reveal where he got it from eh?  I am pretty sure some time in a Thai jail or prison may change his mind if he lives long enough to talk.  Of course the poor fellow may have his entire family or friends held hostage and they will be treated not nicely if he rats out?

Apparently if you are carrying a false passport you are entitled to the presumption of citizenship of that country. Hmmm, didn't work for the Indians claiming to be Portuguese, did it?

If you don't have the money to buy legally a good passport  (e.g. maybe Thaksin) then you have to buy on the street a cheap one, calculating to have fun one day.....

Well, Nelson Mandela was South African. Perhaps his name ought to have been Nelson van de Merwe. Ok ja?

But Mandela had proper documentation for his name (prison release, if nothing else), not just a fake passport.
