191 Emergency Call...

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just want to share this for what it might be worth:

My wife and I had reason to call the Police this morning (00:10 ish), and when we couldn't raise our local station, we called another station. A bit further away, and he told us that we were outside his area, and we should call the local one. We explained that we'd tried and there was no response so he told us to call 191 (the emergence number).

First attempt, put on hold... 15 seconds and a guy says "Sawasdee kr...." cut off in the middle of the sentence and the phone goes dead.

Second attempt, "Sawasde....." nothing

So I tried my mobile phone 191.... "Sorry but the number you're dialing is not assigned"

By now I was thinking how dead I would be if this was a real emergency.

My wife continued to try 191 on the phone, and after about 7 or 8 attempts she got through. It took the best part of 5 minutes for the person on the other end to get directions to our house. My wife had to repeat everything over and over.

By this stage we are waiting for a Policeman to come out and deal with the situation.

Hopefully if any of you need to phone in an emergency you'll have better luck than we had. My wife did tell the guy who took the 191 call (eventually) of the difficulty that we had in getting through to them, and they agreed that it wasn't good. :o

:o BTW, where do you live? Do you think this problem is pertaining to your area or entire Thailand as a whole? (Any hint from the cops about this?)

Just out of curiousity what reason did you have for calling the police out? Nosey really :o
