CDC returns adjusted draft on criminal procedure for political office holders to NLA

BANGKOK, 30th May 2017 (NNT) - The Constitutional Drafting Commission has sent back to the National Legislative Assembly an adjusted version of the draft law on the criminal procedure for political office holders.

CDC Chairman Meechai Ruchuphan said on Monday that the draft law concerning political office holders should be brought up for deliberation at the NLA’s sitting on June 2.

Mr. Meechai said that the returned draft was completed after the CDC clarified the court procedure in it by making it possible for the court to demand more witnesses and evidence if needed.

He added that the CDC also maintained a clause in the draft, which allows the court to proceed with the trial even without the defendant or defendants being present.

Concerning the draft law on the national reform plan, Mr. Meechai said that the deliberation of the second reading was completed and the next step is the public hearing.

He expects the draft to be ready for the NLA in June and to be brought into use in August.
