Hey guys,

I am trying to help a friend out and give him some sound advice. Here is his situation:

-He was kicked out of Thailand in 2015 and was blacklisted due to overstay.

-Now, he would really love to return to Bangkok and thinks that legally changing his name and getting a new passport would solve his issue of being blacklisted.

What do you guys think? Is his plan feasible?

As a minimum I would suggest that it is unwise and obviously illegal (so we shouldn't be discussing anyway). The immigration computer systems are not stupid, they may not be bleeding-edge but nor are they stone-age.

If he got past immigration on entry he would then be in the country illegally, getting caught would lead to a world of hurt. And of course he has to exit again so a second encounter with immigration.

But let's talk about legal avenues.

Was he caught and deported or did he show up at the airport?

How long was the overstay?

When was he blacklisted and how long for?

The best and safest course of action would be to wait out the ban and return totally legally.

If you can post scans of any related stamps in his passport they would be very useful to determine exactly what happened.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
