Police have now pressed pre-meditated murder charge against four of the five suspects in the dismemberment murder case.

With this charge, Priyanuch Nonwangchai, Kawita Rachada, Apiwan Satayabundit and Wasin Namprom will face death sentence if convicted in court. The other suspect, Jidarat Promkhun, is not charged with this serious count on grounds that she was not present during the murder and the dismemberment.

The gruesome crime took place last month in Khon Kaen province, with the victim’s body being cut into pieces and buried in a forest.

“There is evidence that the suspects made preparations for the murder,” Provincial Police Region 4 deputy commissioner Pol MajGeneral Tanasak Rittidejpaiboon said yesterday, disregarding Priyanuch’s claim that the killing was accidental.

I wonder if they will be smiling and applying makeup after the death penalty is handed down.

KHON KAEN: -- Four of the five suspects in the muchpublicised dismemberment case are facing the death penalty after police yesterday pressed premeditated murder charges against them.

The move indicates that investigators doubt key suspect Priyanuch Nonwangchai’s claim that the killing was accidental.

“There is evidence that the suspects made preparations for the murder,” Provincial Police Region 4 deputy commissioner Pol Maj-General Tanasak Rittidejpaiboon said yesterday.

Pol Maj-General Charoenwit Sriwanich also said police planned to conclude the investigation within 84 days and would object to any bail request during that period.

The gruesome crime took place last month in Khon Kaen province, with the victim’s body being cut into pieces and buried in a forest.

Priyanuch and two alleged accomplices, Kawita Rachada and Apiwan Satayabundit, fled to Myanmar following the crime but they surrendered to Myanmar authorities earlier this month and were deported to Thailand. Two other suspects, Wasin Namprom and Jidarat Promkhun, were arrested in Thailand. All but Jidarat face the additional premeditated murder charge.

Charoenwit said the additional charge was on top of other charges that had already been pressed against the suspects in connection with the murder.

The death penalty is the only punishment for defendants convicted of premeditated murder. If convicted of murder without premeditation, penalties range from jail terms to the death penalty.

Charoenwit added that authorities were also probing the suspects’ financial transactions and working with the Office of Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) to determine whether the suspects were involved in illicit drugs.

ONCB secretary-general Sirinya Sittichai said yesterday that Tawatchai Omchompoo, the man who helped the three suspects flee to Myanmar, was wanted in Thailand over drug allegations.

“He has fled to Myanmar while his drug case goes to the Appeals Court,” Sirinya said.

Sirinya said suspected traffickers who had fled from Thailand to Myanmar usually opened up businesses in Tachileik and nearby cities. Priyanuch and her two accomplices were known to have worked at a karaoke lounge in Tachileik for a few days before they surrendered.

Kawita’s elder sister denied widespread reports that Kawita had millions of baht in her bank account.

After visiting Kawita in jail, the sister also said Kawita insisted that she had just taken a ride with her friends and did not know it would implicate her in a crime.

Meanwhile, two immigration police officers in Chiang Rai province have been transferred out of their posts for taking photos with a smiling Priyanuch after she was handed over by Myanmar officials.

They are also facing a probe over the photos and their conduct.

.....  if you cut someone in half then it's premeditated or planned.  They will get the death penalty.

They cut in order to hide the body. After the actual killing (by strangulation), which, theoretically, could have happened on impulse. But it's doubtful. Let's see what the court decides. Still, the very fact of cutting in half doesn't mean it was premeditated.

If they were "Ice addicts" then that can explain the nature of their crime.

Many bizarre crimes have been reported around the world in recent years and most seem to involve  psychotropic drugs.

If they purchased the saw before the act of strangulation, as I believe I read somewhere they did, then IMO it shows they had a premeditated plan to kill and cut up the body.

The guy who killed for an i-phone got the death penalty....... therefore I expect these low lifes to also recieve the same, just punishment. imho.

Yes, purchase of the saw is a strong proof of premeditation (if can be proven that that very saw was used), but the fact of cutting the body alone is not.

I am strongly opposed to the death- penalty on principle.

Lock them away for life in some upcountry jail and give them absolutely no priviledges!

Less economical, more problems, could possibly re-offend in prison.

I disagree, if everything in legally correct, switch off life support. Save oxygen.

Done to death on another thread I think - there is no death penalty in Thailand, on the books but not carried out since 2009.

I for one hope some form of severe punishment is handed down to them in court..the family who have lost a beloved daughter to these

3 deserve justice, even more-so after witnessing the smiles & sheer smugness of these murderers in the news over the last week.

My condolences to the young lady's family.

Wow...that's all I can say.  I am speechless at your mob think mentality regarding death.

Death penalty if the crime was premeditated seems fair. Not before a very slow and excruciatingly painful torture, though!

Why some up-country jail? They will have less chance of survival at Klong Prem Womens Prison.
