Prayut presents 2.9 trillion budget for 2018

In one of his first acts after being named prime minister, Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha outlined the goals of his regime in a speech lasting over two hours Sept. 12, 2014, in Bangkok.

 

BANGKOK — Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha on Thursday submitted his 2.9 trillion baht budget plan to his rubber-stamp legislature.

 

Education, interior, finance and defense – in that order – remain the top beneficiaries of the budget plan that the junta leader presented in a televised address to the National Legislative Assembly.

I see the defense budget is up, compared to 2014, i like to know the percentage spend on the military in 2014 compared to now. The real amounts are meaningless because if the total budget has grown or decreased then it does not say anything. Putting those numbers in there only shows bias if they don't show the percentages too.

 

I am against increases in military spending (in a percentage of the budget), and I believe they have rissen in a percentage of the budget but would like to know the real figures. I looked but could not find them.

Yes please in percentages of the budget.. not in absolute numbers as that makes comparing stuff hard.

I respect your valuable comments on the budget. But the most important number of all that is not being mentioned in the budget news is the deficit.

Last year (2016) the budget deficit was 390 billion baht. Good luck to anyone in trying to find out what the 2017 budget deficit is. What with new submarines, tanks, new attack fighter planes, high speed rail links going all over Thailand. Not to mention the newly approved salary increases to high office officials. Ongoing rice subsidies won't help the budget even though the PM has self proclaimed immunity from such subsidies.

Cash flow might become a problem in the advancing years unless more foreign investment equities are "acquired" by stealth under Article 44. Foreign owned gold mines for example.

My bet is the next budget balancer in the future will be a casino gambling tax.

Deficit is also important, seems that they have always had deficits, but looks like they are getting bigger.  Those other things as tanks are done in the current budget and the subs too (not agreeing with them at all) but they are not increasing the deficit now (later they will). Worst is that i suspect that military budget has gone up relatively too. (in percentage). Id like to know the numbers.

The historical data is in tradingeconomics.com. you may have to calculate yourself the percentage. 

Nice to see education at the top of the list, but I feel he may as spelt it the wrong way as his English is so naff.

 

With most countries cutting the M budget here again they are spending more, who they hell are they going to invade? No One is the answer, just getting seriously rich when others live on next to nothing. In years to come you will see how rich these guys are and the Jboys will still go on defending them. Two hour speech and the Friday night rant, the guy likes the sound of his own voice too much.
