Crime Gun-Wielding Man Assaults Officials at Housewarming Party in Buriram
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A man brandishing a firearm caused chaos at a housewarming party in Buriram province on 6 July, assaulting local security officers and injuring a resident who attempted to intervene. The incident took place at around 15:00, in Ban Chan village, Moo 6, Nong Teng Subdistrict, Krasang District. A shirtless man, later identified as Mr Sitthichai (also known as Sam) 34, reportedly arrived uninvited at the party, which featured live music. Witnesses said that several partygoers had already been drinking heavily, with multiple altercations breaking out during the festivities. Mr Kraison 40, said he noticed the suspect behaving erratically in a nearby rice field, having allegedly fired a gunshot into the air. Attempting to calm the situation, Mr Kraison approached and asked him to stop. The man initially appeared to comply, stating, “I’ve got no problem with you,” but as Mr Kraison turned away, he was struck on the head with a hard object, leaving a deep wound that required eight stitches. Moments later, the suspect returned in his car, blocked the road, and confronted the village security volunteers (Chor Por). In video footage shared online, he is seen pointing a firearm at one officer before kicking another. He then attempted to aim the weapon at a second official. Mr Khrongsak 54, who hosted the party, said the man had not been invited and no one knew how he had ended up at the event. “I heard him shout, ‘Anyone filming this will die.’ But no one dared to record him because he had a gun,” he said. According to Sub-Lieutenant Kowit Mongkhon of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Unit at Nong Teng Municipality, the suspect appeared intoxicated and retrieved both a knife and gun from his vehicle. He fired a shot into the air and threatened attendees who he believed were trying to record him. Officers present were merely attempting to alert the police, he added. Police have since identified the suspect as Sitthichai, a 34-year-old man from another subdistrict. Pol Lt Col Detrapee Lalee, an investigator with Krasang Police Station, confirmed that a warrant for his arrest is being prepared. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-07-08 -
