Two girls from Udon Thani, who entered South Korea on tourist visas and escaped from their tour group with a plan to find work, have agreed to come back to Thailand after their story was featured on national TV and widely shared online.

As more and more innocent people are detained and deported by South Korean immigration because of the rising number of Thais overstaying their visas, the two women identified as Yupin Jantasan, 34, and Chutima Ruengpattaravej, 32, became social pariahs when they vanished from their hotel in Seoul, leaving their Thai guide at risk of becoming blacklisted, Morning News reported.

It was reported that Yupin and Chutima, who are a couple, were both detained upon arrival at the airport on June 9, and their Thai guide, Puriwat Thitijaruwarawat, signed a guarantee that the two women would return to Thailand after their trip.

A tom and her girlfriend.

Silly girls, why would they have thought their plan would work?

Now they will have to sell their car and home and be prepared to pay their parents back.

What great powers of observation you have. Hopefully the quality of your contributions will improve. I won't hold my breath.

2 dykes on the make! :-)

If these two women want to go to work in Korea , they could have gone on their own without

using a tour group. They could have just overstayed their visa and done like a lot of others

by the sounds of things. Putting a tour operator in a fix was just stupid on their part.

Oh well they are back in Thailand, and hope they think better for their next trip out of the

country.

Geezer

It was, it is and it will be always the same: bad people taking advantage of people in need and taking their last cent making them hope of a better life.
It was, it is and it will be always the same: people wanting to get a "better life" and investing their last cent (or even the cent they don't have) in a silly project of expatriation.

Blame the vulture but don't pity the prey then it was blinded by fast and easy money.

If they're into cycling then dykes on bikes.  I reckon they like sitting on lots of things, though.

Yeah, the world's their oyster.  Most countries will be throwing visas at them.

They'll be in London next, you watch.

Two cows made the ultimate sacrifice for a couple of fruit cakes. They will return to their village and probably go into hiding.Their house will be foreclosed on and car repossessed. I'm not sure if Pattaya has any work for a Tom and his wife, but Pattaya would be

a good place for them. Amazing Thailand.

These two girls bought a house and a car apparently with money they did not have and......surprise, surprise..... they ended up with debts that they needed to clear and chose an illegal path to do so.       So, whose fault do you think it was?        Yes, I know....society's. as apparently modern thinking is that there are no criminals in this world any more , only sad, misunderstood and disadvantaged people.  Who, exactly, took advantage of these two girls?

I have great empathy with Thais on low incomes and feel they get and have had a very poor deal from Governments now and in the past, but millions of people are in their financial position and do not break the law and/or put others in a compromising position.  Without spending all the money on air fares etc, they could have obtained similar work quite easily in Thailand and much closer to home.

At what age are Thai females actually considered grown up and be called "women" instead of "girls" by the press?

"As more and more innocent people are detained"....?

Since when does overstaying a tourist visa in a foreign country, class these people as "innocent".....guilty as charged!

The fines here in Thailand for the same offence, are expensive....these silly girls are very lucky there hasn't been a big fine imposed on them, causing hardship, most likely, to their families.

This story is interesting as to how it has been portrayed in the Thai media.

Consider this. This is the normal editorial line.

1. Foreigners who overstay in Thailand are BAD. Their detention, heavy costs (fine, pay for direct flight) and ban are fully justified in the Thai media. No sympathy.

2. Thais who overstay and/or work illegally in foreign countries are GOOD. They have a nickname, "Robin Hood". They are seen as working for the greater good and in the national interest.

However in this case, these two are portrayed as BAD.

I put it this is because they have upset people higher up in the Thai social hierarchy, the Tour company owners. Since all are not equal in Thailand and higher status always trumps lower status, the normal editorial line is dropped and these two characters get a kicking in the press.

I got a Thai friend who went to South Korea and worked illegally in a farm raising poultry for more than a year. He came back to Thailand without any problem. 100% agreed! Those girls are stupid using a tour group!

Escaped?

Sounds like a tough tour.

Bet the tom was the "brains" behind the idea.

I haven't met many Tom's in Thailand but from my last encounter with a tom and her girl, I would say the girl is the brains. Those tom's are to busy pretending to be masculin.

Actually, they hindered a Thai in doing his 'honest' job. Nothing to do with status, they made the tour guide lose face. Even bringing him to a point where he worried so much about his job he bought the tickets.

You should have deleted that crass first line in your edit.

A Thai can be a tour guide in Korea, but a Korean cannot be a tour guide in Thailand

If the Korean gets a work permit in Thailand they can be a tour guide in Thailand for Korean tourists.
