Border patrol police Saturday arrested a Thai man on Saturday when he tried to pass a road checkpoint in Satun with 98 kilograms of krathom leaves.

Kosem Tohjeh, 23, a resident in Satun town, was arrested when the pickup he drove was stopped at a checkpoint in Ban Thung Pattana village in Tambon Khun Sator in Khun Doan district.

He was arrested after border patrol police at the checkpoint found the krathom leaves.

Kosem said he was paid Bt500 to drive the pickup from the Thai-Malaysian border – Ban Wang Prachan village in Tambon Wang Prachan in Khun Doan – to a recipient in Mueang district.

He said he had done it three times without getting caught.

Especially from this, and there is more if you want to read up on it.

As of 2013, no clinical trials had been done to understand kratom's health effects and it had no approved medical uses.[3][4][7] Some people take it for managing chronic pain, for treating opioid withdrawal symptoms, or – more recently – for recreational purposes.[3][7] Onset of effects typically begins within 5 to 10 minutes and lasts 2 to 5 hours.[3]

Common minor side effects may include nausea, vomiting, and constipation.[3] More severe side effects may include seizure, addiction, and psychosis.[3][8][9] Other side effects may include high heart rate and blood pressure, trouble sleeping, and, rarely, liver toxicity.[3][10][11] When use is stopped, withdrawal may occur.[6][7] Respiratory depression (decreased breathing) is a major risk with all opioids;[12]:196 the medical literature is divided on whether it is a significant side effect of kratom, with some authorities not mentioning it[10][8] and others emphasizing it.[9][13] Deaths have occurred when kratom was present, mixed with other substances.[6][7] In the United States, there were fifteen kratom-related deaths between 2014 and 2016,[14] although in none was kratom the sole factor.

A person using this drug may not expect or want the following undesirable effects of kratom:

Edginess, nervousness

Vomiting (can be severe and prolonged)

Nausea (can be severe and prolonged)

Sweating

Itching

Constipation

Delusions

Lethargy

Respiratory depression

Tremors

Aggressive or combative behavior

Psychotic episodes

Hallucinations

Paranoia

Since the drug is also addictive, one of the effects can include compulsive use of the drug despite the harm that is being done to one’s mental state or life.

Addiction effects may include:

Loss of sexual desire

Loss of weight

Darkening of skin on face

Constant cravings that drive one to use more of the drug

Withdrawal effects of kratom are very similar to those of opiates like heroin or prescription painkillers.

They include:

Diarrhea

Muscle pain

Muscle tremors and jerking

Restlessness and sleeplessness

Severe depression

Crying

Episodes of panic

Sudden swings of mood

Irritability

What are they used for, Drugs?

Most commonly, opiate addicts and people on hardcore pain meds use it to prevent withdrawals when getting clean.

Has some medicinal properties, helps with chronic pain etc.

Some user reviews here:

But still illegal in Thailand.

From what I have read the upsides are definitely out weighed by the downsides.

Actually saminoz didn't make a list of anything, but merely did a snip and paste on the post I made at #4. I got that from the internet and I did not make a list but merely copied the links.

Do you have any online references for your made up list or is it just made up?

Of course YOU can make a list of bad side effects, but it doesn't mean much unless you can back it up with references as I and many other posters do. For example how many people did you survey for your list, what were the questions, what class of people did you ask the questions from, were they just from one country or many countries, was it done by email, phone calls or personal visits and for how long a period?

I didn't make it up. I didn't even bother to write it. Just a first result on Google about side effects of drinking coffee or water... .

Then give it a reference and then people can look it up.
