BOT deputy governor: the economy will continue to grow next year

Deputy Governor of the Bank of Thailand Pundit Nijthaworn (บัณฑิต นิจถาวร) is confident that the economy will continue to grow next year.

Mr. Pundit said that the Bank of Thailand will start focusing on policies in money laundering prevention schemes. The BOT will also step up stringent measures to track down financial support channeled to terrorist groups. As for the second development plan for financial institutes, he said that it will be completed next year. He said that this development plan will provide a clearer picture of how financial institutes should play in the market.

The 2nd development plan will also lead to the liberalization of financial institutions.

Mr. Pundit refused to indicate on whether the economic situation in the next year will be better than the last year or not. He said that it depends on many factors, including the global economic situation.

However, Mr Pundit said the most pressing moment is to try to regain confidence from investors.
