Have no answer to your question xylo. I always kept new and old passport and took both for travel till the immi guys at the airport did the job. So there was no need to go to immigration in town or patong.

This, thought note if your next exit is via many land borders they will not accept this. Then its off to Phuket town as Patong cannot do

Don't you have to have a letter from your embassy stating that the new passport is genuine?

Had to have this to transfer valid extension from old to new passport.

Yes and have got the letter from my Embassy thanks Joe........and just wondering if the Immigration dept at Patong can transfer the extensions rather than visiting Phuket town??

More annoying is being unable to view my posting history or search out Merijns name as all this stops after 2 pages!!!

PS. Looks like Lashay posted the answer re the passport, but where is my posting history??

In 2018 at HKT no need for letter. In 5 min all was done.

In town you need the letter and i also guess they do the transfer only in town or HKT.

Did my transfer last week in Phuket Town Immigration last week.  As I came back to Thailand with my new passport and stamped in by airport immigration, letter from embassy not required.  They transferred my retirement extension (expiry Sept 2019) and also the re-entry permit (M).  Took 1 hour.  No fee was paid.  All done in Room 103.  Document needed - copy of first page of both passports, copy of all past renewals in the old passport.

Just heard from a friend here in the UK who is planning to retire in Thailand later this year. He remarked on additional documentation he was to provide along with the normal application to ensure compliance with the latest Thai immigration laws. After Brexit, all holders wishing to apply for retirement visas/other for Thailand will need to have the following documents present when entering the Kingdom:

·         The 800k Baht minimum will stay the same but with one important change. The money will need to sit in a Thai bank controlled by the state and not be available to the applicant until they leave the kingdom.

·         A separate photocard containing a chip which will contain various biometric data on the applicant confirming physical and mental status of the applicant. This card will cost £500.

·         Evidence that the applicant has attended courses in Thai culture and basic language skills. These are available at £750 each and must be attended. No fees are refundable.

You have all been advised and I’m sure there’s more in the pipline.

Fail to see how Brexit could have any bearing on anything here.

And last one sounds far to similar to British "Life in the UK" test to be real.

Though do find the mental status one funny, be good way to empty places like pattaya out of expats.

TLDR: I call bullshit and your friend should tell his agent the same.

Sir, my friend is a retired Police officer with 38 years service. He’s been sniffing out BS for years and has paperwork in hand from the relevant source and is merely passing on the information – you do not need an agent here. See my reply to Richard, below.

Sir, your agent query was answered on #1030 – no agent is required or indeed a fat brown envelope. I spoke to my friend this morning, but I fear he is already developing the debilitating symptoms of the Thai expat. He has become grumpy, aggressive, no sense of humour and almost tone deaf to the reality of what is going on around him. He’s also mumbling about his time in the Nam jungles and I have to gently remind him that he was actually a beat-bobby in Eastbourne. I’ll call him later when his meds have kicked in and get an update on the visa issue. The clarifications of visas after Brexit was bought up in Parliament but the upper class twits droned on for so long nobody could remember what the actual question was…”Ordur ordur…the right honourable gentleman for Nimby West…Blah blah blah… Ordur ordur… Blah blah blah… Ordur ordur…” and so on for the next 3 years…

It’s funny, I’ve been sitting here @ Chaingi airport for the past 3 hours and another 4 to come (thanks Jetstar... ????) wondering why there’s hardly any foot traffic in terminal 1 ?

I know airports get ebbs and flows but it just seems really quiet.

Edit: I didn’t realise that you’ve been crook xylophone, glad you’re getting back on your feet.

Your posts make me feel my age Xylophone.

First I actually understand the origin of the phrase “ that’s the $64,000 dollar question”. And second when you mention what I assume to be a french themed snack bar as it is named Le Snack and in the same breath mention it has all the “usual fare “ associated with what I assume is a French snack bar and first thing being halal food rather than pork pate on a baguette .... well yes it makes me feel old.

Well AJ, the sign/name is a bit confusing as although it says "Le Snack" and mentions halal food, it also has pics of hot dogs and burgers as well as a few other dishes associate with who knows where!!

Have seen nobody it it/buying food as yet, so will give it next to no chance of success, this esp as low season is almost upon us.

I took one of my friends to La Drinkeria when I finally arrived in Patong last night.

I got the impression that it’s a Thai couple who own it, very keen and friendly and the food was good farang food, I had a chicken burger and my friend had a pork steak, we had 4 beers each and it cost 880 Baht.

I don’t eat much farang food here or eat at restaurants much but I’ll definitely take my wife.

I think that they might be able to make it work, i hope so.

Thanks for the feedback and pleased you liked the place..................as i said, it is clean and neat and I'm sure I saw a farang in it when the place was being built, and the other day, with a chefs garb on.

Would love to see it work as it is a bold move!
