My visa expires in August. The work permit- to teach english- I thought I'd obtain looks like it may not be processed in time by my school. Ideally I'd like to honour my commitment to the school to teach until the end of September. A complication is that my UK passport expires on 22 November and, because the process to renew it requires submitting the original to the UK, with no guarantee of a prompt return, I won't be able to show Thai authorities a passport with at least 6 months' validity.

Your wisdom please on my options. Much appreciated.

They don't keep your UK passport when you apply for a new one here in Thailand. Go through the steps here to find out about applying for it. https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports

If you apply for your new passport now you would have your new one in time to go out for a new non-b visa if needed. Recent reports are that it only takes 2 to 3 weeks to get one.
