What are you babbling on about lol. What a bizarre post. It's plain to see your recovering alcoholic

Here's some advice brother, if the sight of tourists drinking and having a good time in bars upsets you then stay away from tourists areas. How easy was that.

You seem to be getting increasingly upset about the negative publicity around this, rather pathetic, venue.

Considering the clientele, it would be appropriate to call it margarita shitstorm. It is quite fitting, really - margarita shitstorm at the corner of soi 13. Not very auspicious.

Your lectures would be better served at your AA meetings brother.

Who in their right mind goes into attack mode over a Mexican restaurant lol. You have any idea how ridiculous you look?

Your clearly very upset that this resteraunt exists. Surely your rise in blood pressure is not worth it.

Those damn pesky tourists drinking beer and munching taco's eh? How dare they.. LMAO [emoji3] [emoji3] [emoji3] [emoji3]

Not much going on - exactly the point. I am actually woken up by birds every morning and can spend my evenings looking at a garden - all this in central Bangkok. People actually chose areas such as Ekkamai exactly because there is not much going on. Some of us have don't need to fill emotional voids with cheap sex and booze, LOL.

Also sorry about the trips to Nana - the place really hurts my eyes (as well feelings of general aesthetics, good taste etc). But not for long, my usual studio in Thong Lo recently re-opened after renovation and the universe is back in balance. ;-)

Ahh the thin rarified air of the sanctimonious moral high ground continues to produce..., more troll like postings :wai:

So you fill your emotional void by denigrating others? Can't be much fun or fulfilling.

Give me the sex and booze. Best of luck to you

Should vegetarians should be mercilessly persecuted, or put into re-education camps - its hard to say.~

But the sneering, elitist, arrogant, faux-superiority they put out is reason enough for some kind of ill treatment.

Never happy unless putting others down.

If anyone sees this idiot, going to his yoga studio - recognise him by his pompous attitude - be sure to hit him with some meat product.

I am sure the place being a part of sunset tortilla inc makes all the difference!

It adds this unmistakable style, class and maybe even sophistication to the way you nurse your hangover with a couple pints at 1000 am.

Oh my, aren't we superior? I'm surprised your Lordship lowers himself to commenting on an internet forum frequented by people who consume alcohol, use the services of ladies of the night, eat meat, and maybe even don't meditate or do yoga. Thank you, your Highness, for sharing your infinite guru wisdom with us mere mortals.

Ha, the cage seems to be getting increasingly rattled... Forgive me if I'll now leave you to stew in your feckless anger.

Hard to have a constructive exchange with so many emotions. It may be all that animal protein - it's as bad for your psyche as it is for your soma (you may need to google these words).

Surely any Western male carrying a yoga mat, should be arrested and forced into at least 4 years of military conscription.

Any Western male who talks about being a vegetarian, mediation or uses Indian words in a desperate effort to look superior, should just be locked up for the public good. Nothing too serious, maybe 10 years, then deported.

I'm not an extremist, I just want to protect the public from harm.

Although I do not want to cause the rapists and drug dealers in prison harm also, so solitary confinement should be required.

Sad drunks? that restaurant is a part of the sunrise taco group and does good food and the "sad drunks" you see are through your depressed vision. I see happy tourists people watching

This thread is misleading. In its prime there were at least 30 Nigerian drug dealers sitting in the street bar and hanging around 7-11 at the end of soi 13 alone and many more that were able to blend in to the crowds and the many street bars.

Now they have been flushed out and there numbers dropped by 70%,the difference of course is they are far more visible so its an illusion there are more.

I live between Asoke and nana so Im not depending on 3rd hand info about "what a friend said"

The other comment about office workers being to scared to walk lower suk is absolutely hilarious! where are the news reports of muggings and rapes? any links to newspaper articles? ....yep exactly ..no city is crime free but lower suk would be the safest red light district on the planet.

TV the hub of never let truth get in the way of a good story lol

I live in the general area as well, and Shadow's report above is far more accurate than that of the OP.

And in fact, the street sellers haven't disappeared at all, though they have been markedly reduced in number and level of obstruction.

In typical Thai fashion, those that remain have adapted by shifting their tables out of the public sidewalks and putting them up against private shopfront businesses that often are closed at night. So they're still there, just (for the most part) not obstructing the public sidewalks so much anymore.

As for the black guys, yes, there's a group that hangs out in front of a 7/11 not far from Margarita Storm at the corner of Suk Soi 13. But there's hardly any bigger or broader presence of them along the entire odd-sois side of lower Sukhumvit than there has been in the past. Though another gaggle of them often can be seen hanging out in the coffee shop counter at Foodland on Suk Soi 5.

As for crap tourist merchandise, if anyone can't still readily find enough of that around Bangkok, then they're seriously missing a few screws.

Stayed in a hotel there couple months ago. Too late to get anything to eat on Soi 11, walked to Took Lae Dii/ foodland.

I only saw ONE Thai streetwalker, all Africans. An agressive fat one grabbed my arm offering sex.

Black gangs must be paying off the cops these ladies are clearly not tourists!

As I mentioned above, the black hookers and pimps seem to like to hang out around Took Lae Dee on Soi 5, and that's been the case for a long time -- perhaps because they're doing business in the hotel across the street.

If you were looking for Thai hookers, you need to go a bit further up the road toward Soi 3, or cross the street to the even numbered sois and have a ball!!!

Well, Ekkamai is mostly a residential area, often chosen by expats such as myself - as it is quiet, green and not too far from business areas. There are some good restaurants and bars (but that's more of a Thong Lo specialty), nothing, however, with the cheap and sleazy atmosphere of Nana. So I have to disagree - tourists are a rare sight in Ekkamai. Especially the low sort of sex- and alcotourists you stumble upon in Soi 4 and thereabouts.

As for burgers - wouldn't know, as I am a plant eater.

Nana is cheap? Mai kao jai.

Cool neighbourhood?

No, "cool" is not an adjective I'd use to describe that part of the Sukhumvit ghetto.

What people need to remember is that it was the THAI pedestrians and business owners who wanted them gone . The pedestrians had had enough of these often abusive deadbeats routinely blocking the pavement forcing them to dodge traffic if they wanted to get somewhere and the business owners (who all pay business rates) had to put up with the hawkers blocking the entrances to their shops pretty much all day long.

They were just hawking counterfeit rubbish that you could pick up in any of a million locations anywhere in the country.

It wasn't a "market" - it was "Shakedown Alley" and I definitely don't miss it.

Tourists might miss the "spectacle" (if that's what you wanna call it) but BMA don't really care what tourists think.

It's this exactly. It seems to me it's mostly the foreigners that don't actually live and work in Bangkok, who don't have to navigate these formerly obstructed streets (especially with children) by walking on the roads to dodge around fake viagra and sex toy sellers that find this change objectionable.

I don't know about you guys, but those pimps give me the willies. I've heard the girls will try to sell drugs, which sets the guy up to be blackmailed.

Either way, I get the feeling 'something evil this way comes' when they're on Sukhumvit.

Yeah that's the age-old problem with sentences beginning with "I've heard"

There's no problem with sentences starting with "I've heard", that's the way most people share information.

Unless you think pimps are nice people, trafficking women then living off them having sex with strangers, usually using violence, drugs and threats against them and their families

That's what most people call evil.

Talking about the old Sukhumvit i was a regular at Bangkok Beat on soi 7.1, a great music bar with plenty of freelancers always had a good time, good music and no problems. Now closed because of the transformation of Sukhumvit.  Now where does this crowd go for live music and freelancers ?????

If you're looking for the willies, there's plenty of ladyboys around that area who'd be happy to oblige.

The Sukhumvit "pimps" don't traffic the women. The women are here of their own volition.

You need to make a distinction between what you've seen in movies and what goes on in real life Sukhumvit, pal.

Bangkok Beat was a great place if you wanted to watch old timers trying to dry hump streetwalkers without dislocating their hip replacement joints.

Clearly toast 1 is o/s. An embarrassing gaff!
